Worth County is found in the south-central part of Georgia State, the US, next to the counties of Crisp, Tift, Turner, Dougherty, Lee, Mitchell, and Colquitt. It was established on 20th December 1853, after an act of the Georgia legislature, making it the 106th County in the state. Moreover, the County was formed from parts of Dooly and Irwin counties and got its name from Major General William J Worth of New York. As per the 2010 census, the County has 21,679 people.

The US Census Bureau states that worth County covers an area of 575 square miles (1490 square kilometers), with 571 square miles (1480 square kilometers) covered by land and 4.1 square miles (11 square kilometers) covered by water. This result comes after portions of Worth County were used to create Tift and Turner counties in 1905. Worth County is part of the Albany, Georgia, metropolitan statistical area, and its headquarters are in Sylvester.

County Inmate Search

The freedom of information act requires all government agencies to make public records, including inmate data, available for public access. However, some information, like data on juvenile inmates under 18 years, cannot be accessed by everyone. To get such information, one must visit the department of juvenile justice. Only suitable individuals, including the inmate’s family, guardians, and lawyers with the legal green light, would get the information.

Finding an Inmate Using the State Prisoner Lookup

To locate an inmate within Georgia State, the department of corrections requires one to visit their website, where they can perform an inmate search. Alternatively, contact the department at 404-656-4661 or visit their offices at 300 Patrol Road, Forsyth, 31029, Georgia.

The first step in performing an inmate search is entering the offender’s name on the questionnaire provided on the search website. To get more efficient results, one can add extra details like the offender’s age, race, and date of birth. Upon entering the name, a list of all inmates bearing the initials would appear. From there, one can pick their offender from the pictures generated.

Searching by Case Number or GDC ID

A case number is a figure that the judicial system assigns to a case presented to them. On the other hand, a Georgia Department of Corrections identification number is a number that one receives upon admission to a detention facility within Georgia. Both of these numbers cannot be shared among multiple offenders. Therefore, using them to conduct an offender search is the most efficient method since one would get specific results.

Finding an Inmate in a County Detention Facility

One can visit the sheriff’s office and perform an offender search to find an inmate detained in a Worth County jail. Alternatively, one can visit the prison’s website in the inmate search section and enter the inmate’s data or contact the prison at 229-876-8211. Note that one cannot get information on inmates who have been released from the facility or those on probation. In addition, if an inmate has just been booked into the facility, it would take some time before their data is updated on the prison’s inmate roster.

Information one would find on an inmate’s profile includes their booking charges, dates of arrest, court dates, court sentences, current location, and bail amounts. In addition, the inmate’s profile can provide data on whether an inmate is eligible for probation.

County Sheriff’s Office

Worth County sheriff’s office is at 201 North Main Street, Room 14, Sylvester, 31791, Georgia. Sheriff Don Whitaker currently holds the law enhancement firm, which promotes peace and public safety through policing. The office is also responsible for managing county detention facilities and the county sex offender registry. Moreover, the sheriff’s department enforces lawful judgments like repossessions, tax delinquencies, and foreclosures. One can contact the sheriff’s office to inquire about:

  • Who is in prison?
  • Worth County criminal records
  • Sheriff’s office auctions and sales
  • County sex offender information
  • Warrant searches and police reports

Citizens Police Academy

The citizen’s police academy is a free 8-week program that provides Worth County citizens an inside look at the law enhancement sector. The sheriff’s department launched this program in 2019 and gave a limit of 20 students per session. Students applied for the classes and got selected by the chief of police and the sheriff. Participants are taken through numerous law enhancement topics. There is a 2-hour class that takes place once every week. This class educates citizens about the sheriff’s department’s functions and operational procedures. Everyone is encouraged to ask questions and raise public concerns to their tutors during the classes. Participants who complete the eight-week course will attend a graduation ceremony and get a certificate of completion.

The curriculum for the citizen’s academy division includes many topics such as:

  • Internal affairs
  • Crime investigation
  • Domestic Violence
  • Sex offender registry
  • Community Policing
  • Patrol and traffic procedures

The sheriff’s department has various divisions, including the traffic unit, patrol division, investigation division, administrative unit, jail operations, and court services division. Some of the major divisions are explained below;

Patrol Division

The uniform patrol division is the main unit of the sheriff’s department. It is staffed with a captain, four lieutenants, five sergeants, and 32 deputies, making it the largest division of the sheriff’s office. The division is the first on-call in any situation requiring security services, for instance, traffic accidents and criminal attacks. Moreover, it is charged with patrolling unincorporated areas of the County and arresting suspects for criminal investigations.

Criminal Investigation Division (CID)

The criminal investigation division is responsible for the supervision of all investigative procedures of the sheriff’s department. Its detectives look into crime scenes, collect, and store shreds of evidence. Moreover, the detectives conduct interviews with suspects or witnesses of crimes before transferring their findings to the judicial system.
