Georgia’s 148th County, Wheeler County, is located in the central part of the state. The 298-square-mile county is named after Joseph Wheeler, a general who served during the Civil War in the Confederate cavalry and the Spanish-American War. The county was established on November 5, 1912.

It is located in the ‘three rivers’ region, framed on the west by the Little Ocmulgee River, the south by the Ocmulgee River, and the east by the Oconee River. According to the 2020 US Bureau of Census, the population of Wheeler County was 7,471.

The county seat Alamo was developed around a railroad depot on this line. The growth of both Glenwood and the Alamo led inhabitants to petition for the division from Montgomery County, leading to the new County, Wheeler County. The largest percentage of residents of Wheeler County work in the Educational, health, and social sciences sectors.

Wheeler County Inmate’s Search

Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office operates the Wheeler County Jail, a medium-security facility located at 208 West Forest Avenue. The facility is the county’s biggest detention facility for pre-trial inmates. The 198-bed facility claims 4882 reservations yearly.

When any arresting law enforcement agency, like the US marshal, state police, the FBI, or the local law enforcement agencies, arrests within the county, they must book the arrestee first. Second, they must ensure that they present the arrestee before the judge to determine whether they could be released on bail. If they are denied or cannot pay the set bail, the arresting agency must transfer these individuals to the Wheeler County Jail.

The jail also houses most Georgia DOC inmates nearing release from prison and inmates sentenced to less than one year for common law violations and non-violent offenses. Thus, this is the perfect place to start when you want to perform a Wheeler County Inmate Search.

You can locate an offender by their first and last name on the sheriff’s website. Under the offender’s name, you can view their mugshots, charges, date, and incarceration status.

How to locate an inmate, not on the Inmate Search Platform

When it comes a time that the inmate you seek is not on the jail roster online, the reason may be that they:

  • Are not in jail.
  • Were released a long time ago.
  • Have recently arrived at the facility.
  • Have not yet completed their booking process.

In that case, you can locate the inmates by calling the jail administration at (912) 568-7107 or by fax at (912) 568-7107 and requesting them to perform an inmate search on your behalf. They will demand a few personal and distinctive details about the inmate so they can quickly seek the inmate that fits your description.

You can also register with the Georgia Victim Notification System to receive updates on your offender, mainly if you are a crime victim. If the offender was a sex offender, you could utilize the Wheeler County Sex Offender Registry maintained by the sheriff. You can also contact the sheriff to request more information.

The last place you can visit to perform a wheeler County Inmate Search is the GA Statewide Inmate Search Database. This registry has information on all offenders in the state. You can locate them by the name of their ID.
