Treutlen County is located in the east-central part of the U.S state of Georgia. The Georgia General assembly proposed the state constitutional amendment to form the county on August 21, 1917, and the county was officially founded on November 5, 1918, and named after John A. Treutlen, Georgia’s first state governor, following the adoption of the state constitution of 1777. Soperton is the largest city and the county seat, while the adjacent counties are Emanuel County, Montgomery County, Wheeler County, Laurens County, and Johnson County. 

According to the 2020 United States census, Treutlen County has a total population of 6406 people, 2490 households, and 1654 families residing in the county. In addition, the Treutlen County racial composition consists of 63.46% White, 31.21% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 2.28% other mixed, and 2.65% Hispanic or Latino. 

According to data retrieved from the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 202 square miles (520km), whereby land occupies 199 square miles (520km), and 3.0 square miles (7.8km) (1.5%) is water. In addition, the Western part of the county is located in the lover Oconee River sub-basin of the Altamaha River basin. In contrast, the eastern part is located in the Ohoopee River sub-basin of the larger Altamaha basin.
