Telfair County County Website

Telfair County is situated in the central part of Georgia state, the US, adjacent to Laurens, Dodge, Jeff Davis, Coffee, and Wheeler counties. European American people established the county on 10th December 1807. The count’s development took place in the 1830s after the Indian removal, who had occupied a greater space of the present-day Georgia state. Telfair County got its name from Edward Telfair, the sixteenth governor of Georgia and a former member of the continental congress. As per the 2010 census, the county has 16500 people.

The US Census Bureau states that Telfair County covers an area of 444 square miles (1150 square kilometers), with 437 square miles (1130 square kilometers) covered by land and 6.7 square miles (17 square kilometers) covered by water bodies. Moreover, the county has at least 50 artesian wells. Telfair County headquarters is found at McRae-Helena, its largest city.

County Inmate Search

The freedom of information act requires all public affiliations to make public information, in this case, inmate data, available to the public. However, some data, for instance, information on juvenile inmates under 18, cannot be accessed by everyone. To get their information, one must visit the department of juvenile justice. Only suitable people who comprise the inmate’s family, victims, and lawyers would access their data. In situations where the inmate has a pending court case, law enforcement officers working on the case can also access the data.

To get data on inmates within Georgia state, the Georgia department of corrections directs one to visit their website and conduct an inmate search. Alternatively, contact the department at 404-656-4661 or visit their offices at 300 Patrol Road, Forsyth, 31029, Georgia.

Finding an Inmate in a County Detention Facility

As of 2022, an inmate roster is available for the Telfair County jail. On this roster, one would get a list of all inmates currently held in the facility. On the inmate’s profile, one expects to find an offender’s details, including arrest dates, booking charges, mug shots, court sentences, bail amount, and court dates, among other details.

The first step in performing an inmate search is entering your inmate’s name on the questionnaire provided on the search web (you can start with either the first or last name). Once you enter their name, a list of all offenders bearing your initials will appear. You can also add other specifying details like the inmate’s age, date of birth, and gender for more specific results. From there, you can pick your inmate from the pictures generated.

Searching by GDC ID or Case Number

A Georgia department of corrections identification number (GDC ID) is a figure that inmates receive upon imprisonment within Georgia state. On the other hand, a case number is a figure that the judicial system assigns to any case presented before them. Both of these numbers cannot be shared among multiple prisoners. Therefore, when one uses them to conduct an inmate search, they will get specific results, making it the most efficient method.

To get details on sex offenders, one can visit the National sex offender registry or the Georgia state sex offender registry. Alternatively, they can just visit the Telfair County sex offender registry website for faster results.

County Sheriff’s Office

The Telfair County sheriff’s office is at 19 E Oak Street, McRae-Helena, 31055, Georgia. It is a law enhancement affiliation that promotes public safety in the county through policing and managing county jails and their offenders. The department is charged with patrolling all independent areas of the county or places not under the jurisdiction of the municipal police force. Moreover, the office is responsible for enforcing legal judgments like tax delinquencies, repossessions, and foreclosure sales. One can contact the sheriff’s office for inquiries concerning:

  • Sheriff’s office sales and auctions
  • Telfair County law enhancement
  • Public safety and criminal activity
  • County jail records and mugshots
  • Inmate visitation and Mugshots

To manage all its responsibilities, the sheriff’s office has various departments, including the jail division, uniform patrol division, court security division, criminal investigation division, and the traffic unit. Some of these divisions are explained below;

Patrol Division

The uniform patrol division is the main department of the sheriff’s office, staffed with the most officers. It is the most visible unit since it mainly involves interacting with residents. It is made of a captain and four commanders who have the position of lieutenant. These four commanders supervise each of the four shifts that the division has. The lieutenants report to the captain, who then reports to the chief of police.

The patrol division receives calls for emergencies or other situations requiring security services, such as traffic accidents and armed robberies. Moreover, officers of the patrol division patrol several county streets and conduct arrests to ensure security through crime prevention. Furthermore, the division is charged with the management of crime scenes and the arrest of suspects before they hand over the case to the criminal investigation division.

Criminal Investigation Division (CID)

The criminal investigation division is the sheriff’s office investigative team, made up of a team of very professional detectives. It is charged with investigating crimes reported by victims or witnesses to the patrol division or as directed by the chief of police. Moreover, the division is responsible for storing people or material evidence and conducting interviews with suspects. Once they conclude the case, the division transfers its findings to the judicial system and even assists in the prosecution process.

Jail Division

The jail operations division manages county correctional facilities and their inmates. It ensures that the prisons are at the standard conditions and that its inmates adhere to all court-ordered programs. Furthermore, the department manages and updates the county inmate search.
