Taylor county is found in the west-central portion of the state of Georgia, the US, adjacent to the counties of Upson, Crawford, Talbot, Marion, Macon, and Peach counties. After an act of the Georgia state legislature, the county was created on 15th January 1852 from parts of Talbot, Macon, and Marion counties. It got its name from Zachary Taylor, the 12th president of the United States. As per the 2010 census, Taylor County has a population of 8906 people.

The US Census Bureau states that the county covers an area of 380 square miles (980 square kilometers), with 377 square miles being land and 3 square miles covered by water. Moreover, the county has its County headquarters in Butler, its largest city. Taylor County depends on agriculture as its main means of income, with several cash crops, including peaches, strawberries, peanuts, cotton, and watermelon, as the most common crops grown.

County Inmate Search

The freedom of information act requires all public institutions to keep public records available to the citizens. These records include inmate information kept in various detention facilities and government offices, for instance, the Taylor County sheriff’s office. Some inmate details are unavailable to the public, like the other records. An example of this exceptional data is information on juvenile inmates under 18. To get such information, one must visit the department of juvenile justice and follow instructions on how to access the data. Only suitable people, including the inmate’s family, victims, and lawyers, access juvenile inmate information. In cases where the inmate has a pending court case, specific law enforcement personnel can access the information.

To find an inmate within Georgia State, the Georgia department of corrections requires one to visit their website and conduct an inmate search from the state inmate locator. Alternatively, one can visit the department’s offices at 300 Patrol Road, Forsyth, 31029, Georgia. Moreover, an interested individual can contact them at 404-656-2345.

Finding an Inmate in a County Jail

One can visit the Taylor County sheriff’s office and conduct an inmate search to find an inmate imprisoned in a county detention facility. As of 2022, nearly all correctional facilities have developed an inmate search page on their websites. Therefore, one can log into the prison’s website (for instance, Taylor County jail) and search for the offender. Some of the details one can use to conduct an inmate search include the following.

  • Inmate’s full names
  • Case number
  • The Georgia Department of Corrections identification number (GDC ID)

The first step of conducting an inmate search is entering the above details on the questionnaire one gets in the inmate search section. When one enters an inmate’s name (as recorded in court), a list of all offenders bearing the same initials appears. To get more efficient results, one can add additional specifying details like the inmate’s race, age, and gender. From there, one can pick their inmate from the pictures generated.

Searching by GDC ID or Case Number

A case number is a figure that the court assigns to a case presented before them. On the other hand, a GDC ID is the number one gets upon admission to a correctional facility within Georgia. Both of these numbers cannot be shared among multiple offenders. Therefore, using them to search for an inmate is the most appropriate way since it delivers specific results. Information one expects to get on the inmate’s profile includes arrest dates, booking charges, court dates, and court sentences, among other details.

County Sheriff’s Office

Taylor County sheriff’s office is at 130 Ivy Street, 31006, Georgia, United States. The basic law enhancement agency in Taylor County is charged with providing security services to people and their property in the county while promoting peace through policing. Moreover, the sheriff’s office is responsible for managing county detention facilities and storing records on all inmates imprisoned in its various jails. In addition, the sheriff’s office is responsible for managing local court orders and judgments, including tax delinquencies, repossessions, and foreclosures. One can contact the sheriff’s office for inquiries concerning;

  • Warrant searches
  • Mugshots and police reports
  • Inmate visitations and contact information
  • Taylor County jail records and Inmate Records

To manage all its constitutional roles, the sheriff’s office comprises various departments, for instance, the criminal investigation division (CID), uniform patrol division, jail operations division, court security division, special events division, and the traffic unit, among others. All these departments play different roles assigned to the sheriff’s office. Some of the departments are explained below:

Uniform Patrol Division

The uniform patrol division is the operational component of the sheriff’s office. It is the largest department, with the largest number of police officers compared to any other division unit. It provides direct and general police services to residents, which involve law enforcement, protection of citizens, identification of criminals, and preservation of public order.

The commander supervises all division operations under the chief of police, who reports to the sheriff. Moreover, the commander has divisional authority in policy and discipline and will exercise legal commands to assure effective presentation of the division. This division is divided into four patrol shifts, each staffed with enough officers. A shift commander, who must be a lieutenant, supervises each shift.

Criminal Investigation Division

The criminal investigation division comprises a team of detectives whose role is to investigate crimes reported by victims or witnesses to the patrol division. It is responsible for protecting crime scenes, collecting potential evidence, storing people and material evidence, and detention of suspects. Moreover, the division follows up on crimes as directed by the chief of police. This division works on financial crimes, identity theft, sexual assault, drug investigations, death crimes, and weapon violations investigations, among others.
