About Talbot County 

Talbot County was formed from a portion of Muscogee County on December 14, 1827, by the Georgia general assembly. This county is located on the west central side of Georgia and is named after Mathew Talbot, the 30th governor of Georgia. In 1852 the county was further divided to create Taylor County, which borders Talbot to the southeast.  

The county lies on 391 square miles of land and 3.4 square miles of water. Talbot County had 5,733 people, 2,809 households, and 1,849 families in 2020, a decrease from the 2010 census.  

There are five cities in Talbot county, Talbotton, Woodland, Junction City, Geneva, and Manchester. Talbotton is the largest of the five and also the county seat. 

Talbot County is governed by a five-member board of commissioners elected from the five districts in Talbot. The chairman and vice chairman are selected from the five members. The board oversees all the operations of the county departments, such as health, correctional, public works, agriculture, and recreational, among others. 

Talbot County Sheriff’s Office 

The Talbot County sheriff’s office, located at 188 Jackson Avenue, Talbotton, Georgia 31827, is the highest law enforcement body in Talbot. Its primary duty is to protect families living in the county and their property. The Talbot County sheriff’s office uses community policing to understand the locals’ needs better and establish a channel for information exchange, resulting in a level of security that improves the county’s quality of life. 

Administrative Division 

The Administrative Division is in charge of planning and implementing a wide range of administrative services that support office operations. These services encompass the areas of financial management, systems, and information management, human resource management, facilities management, and support services. The assistance provided by the division is critical to the effective and efficient operations of our office. 

Patrol Division 

The patrol Division, also known as an agency’s backbone, is in charge of patrolling the 395 square miles of Talbot County and serving its 5,733 citizens. The division’s duties include responding to service requests, traffic enforcement, Court security, community outreach, serving court orders, motor vehicle accident investigations, drug interdiction enforcement, crime suppression, and arrests. 

The division has the following units that assist in its operations; 

  • K-9 unit 
  • SWAT 
  • Judicial protection 
  • School resource officers 

Criminal Investigations Division 

The Criminal Investigations Division is a specialized unit in the county that focuses on conducting timely and thorough criminal investigations using advanced investigative methods and forensic equipment. The division deals with cases relating to robbery, assault, burglary, forgery, identity theft, fraud, sexual assaults, domestic violence, and missing persons. 

 Criminal investigators receive specialized training and must be well versed in criminal law, interrogations and search and seizure laws, laws governing arrest, and agency policy and procedure. 

Jail Division 

The Jail Division is responsible for providing a safe and humane environment for Talbot County jail inmates. Talbot County Jail is a medium-security facility with a capacity of 94 beds. Some inmates in Talbot jail are awaiting trial, while others have been judged and are serving their sentences. The division’s operations include transporting inmates to and from the facility, inmate classification, booking, and logistical duties.

Locating an Inmate Using the Department of Corrections 

Inmates in Talbot can also be under the jurisdiction of the Georgia department of corrections. This happens when the inmate’s security level is higher than that of the county jail. In such a case, they are taken to a state facility, and the DOC’s inmate locator will help in the search. The DOC inmate locator also maintains inmate information for all county jails in the state. A disclaimer notice appears, notifying users that the department of correction and its employees do not guarantee the accuracy and completeness of the information. After one has accepted the terms of usage, the inmate locator presents you with search options that include;

After submitting the form, the locator displays all the offender’s records, including the sentence, charges, physical appearance, and current facility.
