About Stephens County Sheriff’s Office

Stephens County sheriff’s office provides law enforcement services in the county by ensuring the safety of all citizens and their property. The office implements proactive measures that limit the opportunity for legal behavior. The sheriff’s office is managed by the sheriff, who is assisted by deputies assigned to different divisions. The chief deputy supervises the division majors and organizes their activities to guarantee information flow and efficiency. Some of the officers in the sheriff’s office are mentioned below.

County Inmate Search

When a person is arrested in Stephens county, law enforcement, county jails, and courts compile information about the case, including the identity of the person incarcerated, the circumstances of the arrest, the charge, sentence, facility incarcerated, release dates, booking dates, and bond. These records are considered public information according to the freedom of information act. Government bodies are required to provide the information to the general public. There are several ways one can access these records.

Inmate Search Through the Department of Corrections

The Georgia department of corrections provides inmate information on its website. Interested persons can easily access records on all inmates in state and county facilities. Upon opening the DOC website, an icon labeled ‘find an offender’ appears. The link on the icon leads to a disclaimer agreement that shows the terms of usage one must accept to receive the information. The disclaimer states that the DOC and its employees are not liable for any harm or loss that may occur from the misuse of the information provided.

Once you agree to the terms of usage, the website presents a search criterion that one must fill in to access the information. The search allows you to use the inmate’s last name, first name, gender, race, age, and most recent institution. The section on the most recent institution has all the prisons and jails in the state. Choosing institutions in Stephens County will help narrow the search.

The results will show the inmate’s name, birth year, gender, height, weight, eye color, hair color, tattoos, offense committed, and possible release dates.

Inmate Search Using the Sex Offender Registry

A sex offender is someone who has been convicted of committing a sex crime. Sex crimes include rape, aggravated sexual assault, child sexual abuse, sodomy, enticing a child for indecent purposes, and aggravated sexual battery. When anyone charged with a sexual offense is released from prison on parole or probation, they must register with the sheriff’s office. Sex offenders moving into the county from other places must also register with the sheriff’s office. The Stephens County sheriff’s office maintains a list of all sex offenders in the county. The list helps identify offenders charged with sex crimes near you.
