About Seminole County
Seminole County was created on 8 July 1920 from Decatur and Early Counties. It’s located in the southwestern corner with Florida to the south, Alabama to the west, Decatur County to the east, and Early and Miller counties to the north. The County was named after the Seminole tribe of Native Americans who lived in the region at least since the thirteenth century, but the influx of European settlers eventually drove them off. According to the 2020 U.S. Census data, the County has a total area of 257 square miles inhabited by 9,147 people. The largest ethnic group in Seminole County was white (61.41%), followed by African Americans (32.37%).
Economy
In 2019 the County’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was $309.40 M, and in 2020 the County employed a labor force of 3,093, and the unemployment rate was 5%. Healthcare and social assistance employed 612 people, manufacturing 419, and retail trade 327 people. Utilities were the highest paying industry with a median of $71,750, followed by construction at $67,813 and administration at $53,882.
About Seminole County Sheriff’s Office
The Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for the County’s unincorporated sections. The Sheriff is the only elected law enforcement official in the County and is accountable to citizens and voters. Seminole Sheriff’s office collaborates with community members to maintain peace and order. The office has 32 dedicated employees working in the five divisions that help the Sheriff achieve his duties. Patrol deputies regulate traffic, enforce motor vehicle laws, and respond to reports about domestic disputes, fires, car accidents, robberies, and other criminal activity. In addition, they conduct preliminary investigations, examine witnesses, preserve crime scenes, collect evidence, and arrest suspects.
Deputy Sheriffs also serve as court officers and provide courtroom security, guard detainees, testify in criminal cases, transport inmates to and from the court, and serve civil papers and warrants.
Detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) investigate crimes to apprehend and prosecute criminals. Detectives collect and question witnesses and suspects to solve an investigation and examine the evidence. To accomplish their objectives, the detectives may seek the support of specialized experts, technologists, and forensic specialists, then combine this with their training to correctly complete a case.

Deputies in the jail division are in charge of receiving inmates, collecting their fingerprints, taking their pictures, and classifying them for incarceration. County Inmate Search
When one is arrested in Seminole county by either the Sheriff’s deputies or the Donalsonville police, they are taken to the Seminole county jail. Once in jail, they are identified using the fingerprint system and booked. The detainee may be granted bail or denied it depending on the circumstances of the case. By the Freedom of Information Act, the Seminole County Jail aims to release information on inmates confined in the facility. However, due to the Freedom of Information Act’s exclusion of juvenile records, which a parent or legal guardian can only view, this information is only available for male and female adult convicts.
Making an Open Records Request
Seminole Sheriff’s office uses the open record request service to provide the public with inmate records. The service is only available from Monday to Friday. Anyone detained over the weekend must wait until Monday to be booked, at which point their records will be made publicly accessible through the open record system.
To access records through the open records request, visit the Seminole county jail and submit your request at the open records request desk. Alternatively, you can submit your request through mail at 208 Court Street, Donalsonville, GA 39845, or by fax at 229-524-8528 or 229-524-8906. You can also send a request via email at [email protected]. The records desk will provide you with the information after making a request. This information may include the inmate’s name, charges, bond, booking date, booking number, court dates, and release dates.
Inmate Search Using The DOC Website
Because the Seminole County Jail is a minimum security facility, it cannot house inmates with higher security levels. This includes inmates with long sentences of inmates with serious disciplinary issues. When this happens, the Sheriff recommends transfer to a medium or maximum security state facility operated by the department of corrections. Finding records on inmates transferred to a state facility is easy as their records are updated on the department of corrections website. The website has a search locator that requires one to use the inmate’s first name, last name, or DOC number to get the inmate’s information.
