About Schley County

Schley county was formed on December 22, 1857, and named after William Schley, the thirty-sixth governor of Georgia and a united states representative. The county was formed from parts of Marion and Sumter counties. Census data shows that in 2010 Schley County occupied an area of 168 square miles and had a population of 5,010. The county seat is Ellaville, the only incorporated town in Schley County. The local economy is based primarily on agriculture, with farmers raising beef cattle, poultry, peanuts, soybeans, and cotton.

The County Manager oversees all Department Heads in the county and directs all organizational, operational, management, budgetary, and administrative operations and activities. The county manager reports to the board of commissioners. The County Manager and the County Commissioners are supported and coordinated by the County Clerk.

County Inmate Search

Locating an inmate in county jail or accessing information about their arrest, charges, bond or sentence can be nerve-racking, especially if you have no idea where to begin. The freedom of information act authorizes all relevant bodies to provide the public with information regarding inmates in confinement facilities. Schley county sheriff’s office has made efforts towards availing inmate information on its website.

Locating an Inmate in Schley County Using the Jail Inmate Roster

Schley county jail admits inmates waiting for trial or serving short sentences. The county jail provides an online inmate roster that has every inmate’s information in jail. To access the inmate roster, visit the sheriff’s website and search using the inmate’s first and last name or the arrest date. Information on the roster changes quickly, and the sheriff’s office does not make any guarantee as to its accuracy and correctness. The inmate records on the jail roster include;

  • Name
  • Sex
  • Race
  • Arrest date
  • Mugshot
  • Arrest status
  • Offenses committed
  • Address
  • Height and weight.

Locating an Inmate Who Is Not On the Jail Roster

Due to inaccurate information on the jail roster or incomplete booking procedures, an inmate’s name may not appear on the roster. When this happens, the alternative is to contact the sheriff’s office via phone or email and request assistance accessing the inmate’s information. You can also visit the county jail and get help from the lobby’s receiving officer.

Locating an Inmate Using the Georgia Department of Corrections

Georgia Department of Corrections provides information on inmates incarcerated in state and county facilities. The department offers this information on its online offender locator. The locator can be used to locate an inmate who is serving time at the Schley county jail. Inmates waiting for trial can be harder to track using the DOC offender locator since their information changes quickly.

To search for an inmate in the locator, use the inmate’s first or last name. You can also use the inmate’s gender, race, age, or most recent institution to narrow the search. The Department of Corrections prohibits using the information obtained from its website for publication as a public or official document.
