Randolph County is a county in the southwestern part of the United States state of Georgia. On December 20, 1828, an act of the state legislature created Randolph County, becoming the 75th county of Georgia. The County was named in honor of John Randolph, a Virginia congressman (1773-1833). He was one of the most controversial statesmen during the early federal period. The county seat was Lumpkin until 1830 when it became Stewart County’s (formed from Randolph County) county seat. In 1831, an act of the state legislature named Cuthbert as the county seat for Randolph County.  

According to the 2020 census, this County had a population of 6425. Randolph County has a total area of 431 square miles comprising 428 square miles of land and 2.6 square miles of water.  

This County offers many opportunities in education, recreation, tourism, specialty shopping, news, active civic clubs, and health care. It features plenty of land for hunting and great fishing in local ponds and rivers.  

Randolph County Sheriff’s Office 

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service, professional law enforcement agency committed to serving the needs and protecting the lives of the citizens of Randolph County, Georgia. The Georgia Constitution established the Office of the Sheriff, where each county in the state has one Sheriff. This Office is filled by election every four years, making the Sheriff directly responsible and accountable to the residents of the County, independent of the county commission. Typically, Georgia statutes establish the qualification of this agency. The Sheriff is responsible for appointing deputies to help him carry out the duties of the Sheriff’s Office.  

This agency is responsible for protecting property and life, apprehending law violators, enforcing the laws of the State of Georgia, preventing civil disorder, and repressing crime. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office preserves social tranquility and safety, provides service to the courts, and provides humane safekeeping to all individuals confined to the detention facility. 

The dedicated men and women of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office provide law enforcement in Randolph County. The Office serves and protects the more than 7000 residents and patrols the 431 square miles of the area, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is a department of the Randolph County government, funded by County taxes and other revenue.  

About the Sheriff 

Sheriff Eddie Fairbanks is the current Sheriff of Randolph County, Georgia. Fairbanks was born and raised in Shellman and has been a resident of Randolph County his entire life. He attended public schools in this County, where he graduated from High School and played varsity basketball.  

He started his law enforcement career at the Dawson, Georgia, Police Department in 1989. Sheriff Fairbanks rose to Sergeant before accepting a position in the Terrell County Sheriff’s Office. He has served as the Sheriff in Randolph County since 2013 and completed over 1200 hours of formal law enforcement training. 

Randolph County Jail 

Randolph County Jail is a 118-bed correctional facility located at 101 Peachtree Street, Cuthbert, Georgia, 39840. The facility was completed in 2014, featuring modern security systems, holding cells, medical services, four isolation cells, a suicide watch, and an intoxication tank. The jail staff strives to offer the highest degree of safety, service, and security for inmates, staff, and visitors.

The Randolph County Jail does not offer an online inmate roster like most county jails in Georgia. This is because it mainly temporarily houses offenders awaiting trial and are in the facility.
