Pike County is a county in the west-central part of the United States state of Georgia. The state legislature created Pike County in1822, becoming Georgia’s 56th County. It was formed from portions of Monroe County, and later parts of Pike County were used to form Lamar, Spalding, and Upson counties. The county seat is Zebulon.
Pike County, alongside Zebulon, its county seat, was named for Zebulon Pike, an explorer of the Louisiana Territory and general in the War of 1812 to 1815. His name became famous after discovering a Colorado mountain named Pikes Peak. The county seat was incorporated in 1825, and a two-story wooden building served as a courthouse. The present courthouse was constructed in 1895. Other incorporated towns in Pike County include Molena, Concord, Meansville, and Williamson.
As of the 2020 census, Pike County had a population of 18889. The County has a total area of 219 square miles, where 216 square miles is land and 3.3 square miles is water.
Pike County Sheriff’s Office
The Pike County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for maintaining the peace of Pike County, protecting life and property, and providing service to the community. Pike County Sheriff
The current Sheriff of Pike County, Georgia, is Sheriff Jimmy Thomas. He is currently serving his fifth term after his initial election in 2000. Sheriff Thomas boasts of more than 30 years of experience in public safety. Notably, he serves as a Regional Vice President of District 4 with the Georgia Sheriff’s Association. Thomas graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy and the Clayton County Law Enforcement Academy. He, alongside his wife of 40 years, Margaret, has three children and three grandchildren.
