Pierce County is located in southeast Georgia, the state’s 120th county. It was created in 1857 from parts of Ware and Appling Counties. The County is part of the Waycross, GA, Micropolitan Statistical Area. Pierce County was named after Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United States and an anti-abolitionist from New Hampshire. According to the US Census Bureau, Pierce County has a total area of 343 square miles, including 316 square miles of land and 27 square miles of water. As of the 2020 census, this County had a population of 19716.  

Pierce County provides its residents and visitors with a magnificent rural atmosphere year-round. Whether set ablaze with the colors of fall or blooming with the promise of spring, the small-town and beautiful farmlands that make this County are a sight to behold. The Alabaha River winds throughout the County, creating fishing and outdoor entertainment opportunities. Pierce County Sheriff’s Office 

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office preserves the safety and peace of Pierce County’s citizens through professional law enforcement carried out politely and respectfully. It will uphold the Constitution of the United States and Georgia while striving to protect the residents’ persons, property, lives, health, and morals. This Office strives to grow in professionalism and training to ensure it continues prosecuting criminals and caring for the citizens in need. 

Sheriff Ramsey Bennett is the current Sheriff of Pierce County, elected to Office in 2012.  

The central law enforcement center is at 300 Pierce Industrial Blvd., Blackshear, GA 31516. The Office is the chief law enforcement office in Pierce County. This is a constitutional office, and the Sheriff serves for four-year terms. The Sheriff is entirely responsible to Pierce County’s citizens and not the County Administrator or Manager. Typically, this agency is responsible for promoting public safety in the County through public policing. Its primary function is to operate and maintain the county jail alongside the offenders and detainees. The Sheriff’s Office is in charge of patrolling incorporated and unincorporated areas of Pierce County or those regions not covered by local police departments.  

Pierce County Sheriff’s Office comprises seven divisions: the 911 Center, ACE Unit, Chaplain Services, CATS, Patrol Division, Directory Services, and Detention Center.  

Patrol Division 

The Uniform Patrol Division Unit oversees general law enforcement duties and preventative patrol. The Deputies under this role primarily respond to calls for service, preliminary and follow-up investigations, traffic enforcement, and narcotics enforcement. This Unit’s men and women are assigned to teams usually divided into two-person shifts. They provide these services 24 hours every day, all week.  

Detention Center 

The Pierce County Detention Center is a medium security correctional facility under the Detention Division in the Office of the Sheriff. The Detention Division is tasked with the care, control, and custody of offenders, protection of offender rights, and delivering inmate programs and medical services. The facility is at 300 Pierce Industrial Blvd, Blackshear, GA 31516, United States.  

It houses offenders from all of Pierce County.  

Pierce County Inmate Search 

Pierce County inmate records are the personal and administrative records of persons held in jails and prisons in Pierce County, Georgia. Most of these records are available for public inspection online, while some are sealed and are only available upon request by approved parties. Typically, these records provide identifying information such as the inmate’s full name, gender, race, age, date of birth, physical descriptions, booking photos, and address. Additionally, they contain conviction information, including the offender’s custody status, criminal history, booking date and time, past and current locations, jail transfer data, and registration numbers.  

According to Georgia law, the citizens or interested parties can obtain inmate records from official custodians. However, access to sensitive information is prohibited, such as health and juvenile records. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is the primary custodian of inmate records in Pierce County. Some municipalities, however, can obtain these records from their designated Police Departments. One can also access state offender records through the Georgia Department of Corrections.  

Finding an inmate in Pierce County is simple for those who know where to look. Usually, correctional facilities provide an inmate search tool on their official websites. County jails usually have inmate rosters containing current inmates. On the other hand, state prisons usually provide an offender search tool. Numerous authorized inmate search sites also exist online that allow users to locate a loved one by name and facility location. They offer a relatively easier search process. However, information obtained from these sites can be inaccurate and outdated.  

County Jail Inmate Search 

To find out about an offender held in the Pierce County Detention Center, visit the Sheriff’s Office’s official site. On the menu bar, click “Community Resources,” and on the dropdown, click “Inmate Search.” This takes you to the “Current Inmates” page displaying the current offenders at the facility. This list contains the inmate’s name, sex, height, weight, arrest date and time, arresting officers, days in jail, and total bond. Additionally, it comprises the charges, sentence information, and description of the offense.
