Peach County is a county in the heart of the central United States state of Georgia. The state legislature created Peach County in 1924 from Macon and Houston Counties. It is Georgia’s 161st county and the last one to be created. This County is part of the Warner Robins, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area, including the Macon-Warner Robins, GA Combined Statistical Area. The state’s youngest County got its name from the peaches grown in this area and is the famous, self-proclaimed “Peach Capital of the World” Samuel Henry Rumph resided in this County and launched the state’s peach after developing the Elberta peach variety, named after his wife.  

According to the 2020 census, PeachCounty’ss population was 27981. It has a total area of 151 square miles, including 150 square miles of land and 1 square mile of water.  

The Georgia Peach Festival and the Peach Regional Rodeo particularly celebrate PeachCounty’ss most famous crop. There’s peach craze lasted until the “Great Depression.” 

Peach County Sheriff’s Office 

The Peach County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service and professional agency committed to serving the needs of the residents of Peach County. The Georgia Constitution mandates that every county has a Sheriff and legislation designates them as the chief law enforcement officer in the County. Typically, the Sheriff, alongside his deputies, is the closest public officer to the residents. They come in contact with the citizens throughout their work. Typically, this Office symbolizes law and protection, which wrongdoers usually fear.  

In this state, the Sheriff is the highest ranking law enforcement official in Peach County. The Office of the Sheriff in Georgia is a constitutional and county office. Its constitutionality emanates from the common law, from the constitutional provisions to particular offices that existed when the first state constitution was ratified, and since the Sheriff’s Office was listed on the Constitution as one of the four independently elected county officers. Additionally, because this Office is constitutional, the internal operations are the Sheriff’s sole responsibility, and they are not subordinate to the County Manager or Administrator.  

The current Sheriff of Peach County is Sheriff Terry Deese. He was elected to this Office in 2005 and has led it with dignity and honor. In 2017, Sheriff Deese was named Sheriff of the Year to recognize his outstanding contributions to the Sheriff’s Office, Georgia’s law enforcement family, and the community. He has a wealth of law enforcement experience and educational experience. The Sheriff and his Deputies are highly trained with legally mandated functions such as: 

Law Enforcement 

The Sheriff is responsible for protecting property and life and preserving public peace. This function comprises all law enforcement functions associated with those endeavors.  

Court Duties 

Apart from providing physical security in the courthouse and courtrooms, the Sheriff also serves as Bailiff to the Superior Court or delegates a Deputy. The Bailiff’s functions include escorting juries to the courtroom, attending to their needs, and guarding them against external influences.  

Jail Administration 

The Sheriff’s Office manages and operates the Peach County Jail. This state-of-the-art correctional facility is located at 1007 Spruce Street Extension, PO Box 510, Ft. Valley, GA, 31030. It currently has an inmate capacity of 116.
