Paulding County is a county situated on the northwestern side of the U.S. state of Georgia and is part of the Atlanta Metropolitan area. The county was formed from Cherokee County by the Georgia General Assembly on December 3, 1832. Paulding County is named after John Paulding, famous for capturing the British spy Major John Andre in 1780 during the American Revolution. Dallas is the biggest city in the county and the county seat of Paulding County. In contrast, the adjacent counties include Bartow County, Cobb County, Douglas County, Carroll County, Haralson County, and Polk County. 

Geographically, according to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, Paulding County has a total area of 314 square miles (810km), whereby land occupies 313 square miles (810km) and 2.1 square miles (5.4km) (0.7%)  

According to the 2020 United States Census, the total number of people in Paulding County is 168661, 56476 households and 44021 families living in the county. In addition, the racial composition of the county consists of 64.3% White, 21.71% African American, 0.23% Native American, 1.14% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander,5.1% other mixed races, and 7.45% Hispanic or Latino. 

Politically, a five-member board of commissioners, including a chairperson and four post members, governs Paulding County. Moreover, two state senators and four state representatives represent the state legislature.

Jail Division 

The Paulding County jail is a 631-bed facility that holds individuals before and after their sentence. The primary function of the jail division is to receive, process, and house charges with a felony or misdemeanor criminal violations. Inmates who cannot make a bond remain in custody till they appear in court. In addition, the jail ensures the security of inmates and provides them with health care where necessary. In addition, the division offers inmates different programs which allow them to gain new skills to help them cope with life after completing their sentence. 

Moreover, the Paulding County sheriff’s office utilizes inmate labor to do various duties such as picking up trash along the county’s roadways, cleaning the sheriff’s office and jail facility, cutting grass, and cleaning the Paulding County house and administration building. Criminal Investigations Division 

The primary function of the criminal investigation is to perform follow-up investigations of reported crimes. The uniform patrol division is the most significant, most visible, and the pillar of the Paulding County sheriff’s office. The uniform patrol division consists of the following units;

Civil Division/ Warrants  

The civil division serves civil processes received from the Paulding County courts, private businesses, citizens, and other jurisdictions. Moreover, the civil division executes court orders about writs of possessions and evictions, performs a collection of other judgments, and serves temporary protective orders. On the other hand, the warrant division executes criminal arrests and helps other law enforcement agencies perform warrant arrests upon request. Each deputy is allocated with cases (warrants) as they come in and starts working on the issues immediately, attempting to find and apprehend the person. 

Training Division 

The training division of the Paulding County sheriff’s office is responsible for conducting training courses for all deputies and detention officers to help them maintain their Georgia POST credentials and certifications. In addition, the division is committed to providing quality training to deputies and detention officers, and outside agencies.
