Montgomery County is found in the central part of the U.S state of Georgia. The county is part of the Vidalia Micropolitan Statistical Area. Montgomery County was founded on December 19, 1793, in a southern part of Washington County, Georgia. Moreover, the county was named in remembrance of Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War general and killed in 1775 while attempting to capture Quebec City, Canada. Mount Vernon is the county seat to Montgomery, while the adjacent counties include Treutlen County, Jeff Davis County, Toombs County, and Wheeler County. 

Statistics recorded by U.S. Census Bureau show that the county has a total area of 245 square miles (630km), where land occupies 240 square miles (620km) and water 5.2 square miles (13km) (2.1%). In addition, the southeastern part of Montgomery County is situated in the Altamaha River sub-basin of the bigger river basin of the same name. The western section is located in the lower Oconee River sub-basin of the Altamaha River basin, and the northeastern section is located in the Shopee River sub-basin of the Altamaha River basin. 

On the other hand, according to data from the 2020 United States Census, the total number of people in Montgomery County is 8610, 3097 households and 2102 families living in the county. Racial-wise, the county comprises 65.8% White, 24.62% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 2.43% other mixed races, and 6.63% Hispanic or Latino.

Support Services

In addition, the civil process division serves most juvenile arrest orders and mental health detention orders, which may require transporting persons to various facilities In Georgia.
