Meriwether County is Georgia’s seventy-first county, located in the state’s west-central part. It was created in 1827 with its seat in Greenville and covers 503 square miles. Authorities named it after David Meriwether, a Revolutionary War general. He had multiple accomplishments as a Creek Indians interpreter, a state legislator, and a U.S. congressman.

Meriwether County offers the things famous stories are made of, from the bridge enslaved people built and the self-taught engineer Horace King. This county also provides diversity in terms of tourist-attracting sites and places of living. Some of these sites include Warm Springs, Pine Mountain, and Flint.

Meriwether County is also famous for its extravagant eateries like the Bulloch House. Besides Greenville town, Meriwether County consists of other cities like Gay Lone Oak and Lutherville.

How to Find Someone in Meriwether County

The Meriwether County Jail normally maintains an average of 125 inmates in custody on any given day. This number reflects a yearly turnover of approximately 2500 incarcerated individuals. Many people accessing and leaving the facility may complicate the inmate search process.

However, locating an inmate in Meriwether County is easy due to the available inmate search options, including:

Online Search

Unlike other jurisdictions, Meriwether County doesn’t maintain an online jail roster. However, inmate search is possible through third-party websites, although the information they provide may be unreliable. You may also have to pay a small fee to access the information.

Alternatively, you can utilize the Georgia Department of Corrections website to locate transferees from the county jail. Such transfers are common, particularly after an offender’s security status changes. Additionally, inmates awaiting trial may receive judgments whose conditions require them to serve time at the state level.

In any of the above cases, visit the DOC inmate search website and select either of the two search options: Name and ID/Case Number. There is also an option to indicate the facility where the inmate was previously serving time; in this case, you select Meriwether County Jail.

Conduct an Inmate Search Jail Roster

The Meriwether County Jail allows public members to access the facility lobby for inmate search processes. The staff members make accessible a jail roster containing the following inmate details:

  • Name
  • Arrest Date
  • Reasons for Arrest
  • Charges
  • Place of Arrest
  • Bond Amount

Alternatively, you can call the staff members at 706-672-4941 for assistance locating your loved one. This process has been made possible by the Freedom of Information Act that governs access to these records in Meriwether County.

During the process, ensure you know your loved one’s details, including full name and identification number. This is necessary for the easy retrieval of offender data.

How to locate an Inmate Not on Inmate Roster

If you are not sure what county jail your inmate is located in, it will help to at least know the geographic area. In some cases, there is likely to be more than one possibility. In this case, it is advisable to be patient and check them all. You should also look up the city’s police department via call or in-person visit. Alternatively, you can utilize the abovementioned DOC’s website or the Federal Bureau of Prison’s inmate locator.
