McIntosh County, on the Georgia coast, is a quiet and coastal county created from Liberty County through the State Legislature Act in 1793. It was named after the McIntosh family, who were among the earliest Scottish Highlanders to live in the area, three years after the founding of the Georgia colony. McIntosh County houses pristine wildlife habitats, migratory bird paths, and a lighthouse that sentinels over the Sapelo sound.

Authorities incorporated Darien in 1816 and made it the county seat. This happened during a period when the area had begun to prosper as a primary outlet for the upland-grown cotton shipment. The antebellum period was also crucial to making McIntosh one of the wealthiest counties due to sea-island cotton and rice plantations.

Today, the county adorns its many historic sites like the Ancient Oak trees, sweeping marsh vistas, and winding rivers for the longest time. It also has shrimping and fishing boats that dock along the picturesque waterfronts.

You can look up your loved one in McIntosh County through an online inmate search. The local jail system allows you to do a quick inmate search using the McIntosh County Detention Center’s Website. McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office

The McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is located at 12317 Darien, Georgia, 31305. Its mission is to enhance and establish a safe and secure environment for all the investors in this historic county. The MCSO also focuses on improving the quality of life of the citizens of McIntosh County by providing optimal public safety services with the commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, excellence, and integrity. To accomplish this, the Sheriff’s office promotes and fosters aggressive and impartial law enforcement while protecting individuals’ rights, life, and property. The MCSO does this to reduce crime, maintain safe and livable neighborhoods, and develop partnerships that benefit the needs of the citizens.

Further, the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office creates ways of becoming more sensitive to the crime victims’ needs. They include:

  • Creating a web page to inform the public of their rights and responsibilities as crime victims.
  • Providing additional information that they may need during this challenging period.

The MCSO is not only committed to creating a positive experience with the public but also ensuring that crime victims receive the justice that they deserve.

Besides being advocates for crime victims, the Sheriff’s Office offers the Kids Being Kids Program.

Kids Being Kids Program (KBKP)

Kids Being Kids Program is a youth-focused initiative that the Sheriff’s Office initiated to get to know the community better, or rather, community policing. During summer break, kids have a lot of time to play outside. The initiative’s purpose is to reward those kids for being kids. The simple acts that Sergeant Major Jeremiah Jarrell recognizes the kids with include:

  • Setting up lemonade stands
  • Shooting a basketball
  • Riding their bicycle
  • Helping the needy out

However, with the current turn of events, some kids might view law enforcement in a negative light. This is why the County Sheriff, Jarrell, and other deputies are handing out free ice cream vouchers to kids while on patrol.

Apart from getting to know kids better, the Kids Being Kids Program also helps the County Sheriff’s Office show kids that there is more of a positive side and that they should feel free to communicate with the Sheriff’s Office.
