Marion County is situated in Georgia’s west central region. The county was established on December 14, 1827, when parts of Lee and Muscogee counties were combined. It was named after General Francis Marion, a Patriot hero from South Carolina.

The county utilizes Buena Vista as the county seat and is part of the Columbus, GA-AL Metropolitan Statistical Area.

According to the US Census Bureau, the county has 367 square miles of land and 1.5 square miles of water. It is also home to 8,450 residents as of 2020 US Census statistics and has been Republican since 1964.

Marion County aims to maintain and improve its rural quality of life, a thriving economy, and a sense of community pride. Besides, the Marion County government’s goal is to deliver high-quality public services and foster physical, social, and economic development.

Marion County Inmate Search

MCSO operates the Marion County jail located at 100 Burkhalter Avenue, Buena Vista, Georgia, 31803. The facility currently has 28 male and two female inmates serving prison time. Nonetheless, this facility is also the county’s only detention facility for pretrial inmates.

All inmates in the county charged with violations of Marion County ordinances and Georgia state and federal laws are detained at this facility until their cases can be completed. However, these inmates are the ones that the court deems ineligible for bail, or they cannot pay the set bail. After sentencing, the inmates are transferred to Georgia State and Federal Prisons.

The jail maintains an online jail roster with information on all inmates under its care. In return, this is the first place you can check when you want to perform the Marion County Inmate Search. The jail roster is a searchable platform that gives the general public access to inmate records. Furthermore, these are public records per the Georgia Open Records Act and Freedom of Information Act.

You can locate an inmate incarcerated or detained in Marion County by name. The roster is grouped, so all inmates with similar first names are put together.

How to locate an inmate if you can’t find them on the jail roster

If they are not on the jail roster, they have not yet arrived at the jail, are in the jail but have not completed their booking process, or have been released for a long time. In that case, you can contact the jail administration at 229-649-3841.

You can provide all the details that identify your inmate over the phone. You can also book an appointment to visit the jail administration and request to view the jail records.

Other alternatives

You can access the jail roster using third-party websites that offer search access. Some charge processing fees, and their records may not be accurate or up-to-date.

On the other hand, if the offender was a sex offender, you can access their records using the Marion County Sex Offenders Registry, maintained locally by the MCSO.

Finally, if you cannot locate them using the above methods, you can visit the GA Statewide Inmate Search Platform. Here you can access all records of inmates in the GA Prison system, and the database is searchable by offender name and ID.
