Lumpkin county is located in the North Central portion of the U.S. State of Georgia. It was initially occupied by the Cherokee, who also occupied areas later termed delimited, such as Western North Carolina and South Eastern Tennessee. Lumpkin County’s population was 33,488 as of the 2020 Census. This county was named after Wilson Lumpkin, the governor of Georgia at the time. In the 1830s, gold was discovered in this county, leading to a rush of miners and development in the area.

1. Drivers Education Course 

The School Resource Officers of the County Sheriff’s Office help offer this course to younger citizens yet to start driving on the roadways. The Drivers’ Education Course is a 30-hour course of instructional classroom time that every participant must meet before the driver can obtain a driver’s license as per the Joshua Law. The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office offers this course twice a year which is often held during the summer months at no charge. At-Ease 

At-Ease, which means Assistance to Ensure a Safe Environment, is a program designed to promote peace of mind and security for homebound individuals, the disabled, disease-stricken, the elderly, or those who generally require assistance regularly contacted by someone.

County Sheriff’s Officers perform extra patrols for Lumpkin County residents and local businesses.  

3. Education Program 

Adult Gun Safety 

This course is offered to the public to educate them on firearm safety and laws s that pertain to the residents of Lumpkin County. This class takes place from 6 to 9 pm in the Training Room at the Sheriff’s Office. Once they complete the class, they can utilize the firing range on the first and last Tuesday of every month. 

Church Awareness and Security Training 

The Sheriff’s Office, through the guidance of Sheriff Jarrad, offers this course at no charge to all churches in Lumpkin County. The first course is a presentation about Church Awareness and Active Shooter and the second presentation discusses the Safe Carry Protection Act.  

Citizen’s Law Enforcement Academy 

The sole purpose of the Public Law Enforcement Academy course is to educate the public on how daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office. Participating clients get the chance to ride along with patrol officers and direct observation of the 911 Communications Center and Detention Center.
