Liberty County is located in the state of Georgia next to Long, Bryan, Evans, Tattnall, and Chatham counties. It was established in 1777 and got its name from the American Ideal of liberty. According to the 2010 census, the county holds a population of 65,256 people of different races, including whites, Asians, African Americans, and pacific Islanders.

County Inmate Search

According to the freedom of information act, all public affiliations must make public information available to citizens. This data includes inmate information held by various detention facilities and the county sheriff’s office. Not all inmate information is available for public view, for instance, details on juvenile criminals under 18. In such cases, one can seek instructions from the department of juvenile justice. Moreover, only suitable people would get those details. These people include the inmate’s family, victims, attorneys, and some law enhancement agencies working on the offender’s case. These agencies usually seek inmates’ details when the prisoner’s still have pending cases in court.

Performing an Inmate Search

To find an offender held in Liberty County, one can log into the sheriff’s office website and conduct a free inmate search. Alternatively, they can contact the office by phone or visit it at the address. If an individual already knows where their offender is located, they can just log into the facility’s official website and look for their inmate from that point.

The first step in performing an inmate search is entering the inmate’s full name on the questionnaire on the search website. Upon entering a name (either the first or the last), the website would generate a list of all offenders with the same names as the sought inmate. Moreover, one can add extra information like age, race, gender, and date of birth on the search web for efficiency purposes. Some of the details one usually gets on the inmate’s profile include their booking charges, their court dates, criminal sentences, and possible probations.

Searching using a Case Number or ID

Apart from entering inmates’ names on the search web, an individual can still enter an inmate’s case number on the prisoner lookup. This number is a figure that the court assigns to a certain case presented to them. One can use this figure to locate an inmate, which is, in fact, the most appropriate way as it provides specific information about the number’s bearer. Moreover, one can use a Georgia department of a corrections identification number to locate an inmate on the inmate locator. Similar to the case number, a GDC ID cannot be shared by multiple inmates.

To find information on sex offenders, visit the Liberty County sex offender registry. Alternatively, one can visit the national sex offender registry website.

County Sheriff’s Office

The Liberty County sheriff’s office, under the leadership of Sheriff William Bowman, is charged with the enforcement of the law, civil processes, jails, and county courts. It aims to enforce the law fairly without prejudice and provide the best security for citizens and visitors. Moreover, the office ensures that all its inmates get appropriate and humane conditions as they serve their time in jail. This office has various divisions that perform different roles in the county, for instance, the patrol, criminal investigation division, court security division, and the traffic unit, among other departments.

Jail Information

The sheriff’s office is responsible for managing county detention facilities, for instance, the Liberty County jail. It has regulations that govern its facilities. For instance, families can bring their inmates clothes within 72 hours of imprisonment. These clothes include shirts, socks, T-shirts, and undershorts. Moreover, the sheriff’s office sets up visitation regulations on its jails and is responsible for storing, managing, and updating the county inmate roster. In addition, the sheriff’s office has a division charged with transporting inmates to courts for hearings or other detention facilities.

Uniform Patrol Division

The patrol department of the sheriff’s office is the most visible since it interacts with the citizens more than the officers of other divisions. It is charged with providing security to citizens on the streets, especially in independent areas of the county that are not under the municipal police force’s jurisdiction. Moreover, the division responds to calls from the public on issues like accidents or emergencies that require security services. In addition, the patrol division often arrests on-spot wrongdoers who get arrested at the point of crime.

Investigation Division

The criminal investigation division is charged with solving crimes by determining the associated criminals. This division comprises highly trained detectives who follow up on crimes in the county and channel the information to other law enforcement affiliations for crime prevention purposes. Its main function is to determine the perpetrators of crime based on evidence and available facts. Apart from its investigative functions, the department is responsible for addressing and verifying registrations for all sexual predators in Liberty County to ensure they comply with the constitution.
