Lamar County is situated in the west-central part of the state of Georgia, the US, adjacent to Monroe, Butts, Spalding, Upson, and Pike County counties. The county was established on 17th August 1920 from parts of Pike and Monroe County to create the greater Lamar County. This establishment came after the Georgia national assembly proposed the amendment to create the county. Lamar County got its name from the white supremacist Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar. According to the 2010 census, the county has a population of 18,317 people.  

The US Census Bureau states that Lamar County covers a space of 186 square miles (480 square kilometers), with 184 square miles covered by land and the remaining 2.3 square miles (6.8 square kilometers) covered by water.
