Johnson County is located in the state of Georgia, neighboring the counties of Washington, Emmanuel, Jefferson, Laurens, and Wilkinson County. On 11th December 1858, the Georgia legislature established the county from parts of Emmanuel, Laurens, and Washington Counties. It got its name from Herschel Vespasian Johnson, former Georgia governor, senator, and vice president of the United States. As per the 2010 census, the county has a population of 9980 people from various races, including Native Americans, Black Americans, Asians, and pacific Islanders. Johnson County forms part of the Dublin, Georgia, metropolitan area.

According to the US Census Bureau, Johnson County covers a total area of 307 square miles (800 square kilometers), with 303 square miles (780 square kilometers) covered by land and 3.6 square miles (9.3 square kilometers) covered by water. The greater portion of the county is the Ohoopee River sub-basin of the Altamaha River basin, with small portions located at the upper Ogeechee River sub-basin.

County Inmate Search

As per the freedom of information act, all public affiliations must make public details like inmate data available to the public at all times. However, this does not apply to juvenile wrongdoers under 18 years. People interested in details of juvenile inmates must log into the department of juvenile justice to get the data. Note that not all people can access these details. Only suitable people, including the inmate’s family, advocates, and victims, can get the information. Moreover, certain legal law enhancement agencies can gain access to the details, especially when the inmate has an ongoing court case.

Performing an Inmate Search

The Georgia department of corrections directs interested individuals to contact 404-656-4661 to get inmate information. Alternatively, they can visit its offices at 300 patrol road Forsyth, 31029, Georgia. Moreover, one can just visit the state offender locator on the department’s website. Upon picking the appropriate search criteria, one would need the inmate’s name, identification number, and other specific search details. One would then enter either name on the search box. Upon entering, one would get a list of all inmates with the same initials. From there, one can pick their offender from the pictures provided on the website.

Searching Using a Case Number and by GDC ID

A GDC ID is a unique figure that each inmate in Georgia State gets upon imprisonment. Similar to an individual’s national identification number, the Georgia Department of Corrections ID cannot be shared by multiple inmates. Therefore, using the GDC ID to locate an inmate is the best way since it would generate specific results. On the other hand, a case number is a specific figure that the judicial system allocates to a specific case. Therefore, entering an individual’s case number would generate accurate results.

Finding an Inmate Detained in County Detention Facilities

As stated earlier in the article, the Johnson County sheriff’s office is responsible for data on all inmates incarcerated in county detention facilities. Interested individuals can visit the sheriff’s office at their address or log into their official website to perform an inmate search. Moreover, if one knows the exact detention facility of their inmate, they can just log into the jail’s official website and look for their inmate’s information in the inmate search section of the facility’s website. Furthermore, one can contact the detention facility using the contact details given on the prison’s website.

County Sheriff’s Office

Johnson County sheriff’s office, currently held by Sheriff Calvin Hayden is a law enforcement agency that serves the county’s citizens with justice and fundamental fairness. It is charged with several law enhancement services, including maintaining security through patrols, arresting wrongdoers, and the detention of criminals. Moreover, the office oversees all county correctional facilities and makes vital data like inmate information available to the public. It has various divisions that play certain roles in the county’s maintenance of law and order. Some of the units are explained below.

Warrant Unit

The sheriff’s office warrant unit is responsible for searching out, detecting, and apprehending people needed by a written order of the judicial unit. Moreover, the unit is charged with attempting arrest warrants within the county from other counties countrywide and organizing the deportation efforts of fugitives wanted by the county judicial system. Last year, the unit got about 6500 active warrant units. Approximately 4800 warrants were returned to the issuing court because of apprehension of the wanted individual or other court-ordered reasons.

Court Security Division

The court security division of the sheriff’s office is responsible for the safety of the courthouse, county administrative buildings, and its surrounding area at all times. Specific court security deputies maintain a safe entrance by ensuring that all people together with their property go through a thorough screening using a metal detector and an x-ray machine. This way, the officers make sure that forbidden equipment cannot enter the courthouse at any time. In addition to ensuring entrance security, the deputies sometimes get called into court during instances like high-risk hearings, attempt warrants, and take fugitives into custody when required by the court. Furthermore, deputies also conduct perimeter checks and perform civil service and other roles needed.

The Honor Guard

Johnson County Sheriff’s Office honor guard is a special group of deputies brought together to represent the sheriff’s office, law enforcement, and the county community. Its members are ambassadors of the affiliation in public events and community gatherings. Some of the responsibilities of the honor guard include the following;

  • Funerals
  • Retirements
  • Academy graduations
  • Awards ceremonies
