Jenkins County is located in the southeastern part of Georgia State, adjacent to the counties of Burke, Screven, Bulloch, and Emanuel County. It has its county headquarters in Millen. As per the 2010 national census, the county has a population of 8340 individuals from various races, including whites, Native Americans, African Americans, and Pacific islanders.

Jenkins County was established on 17th august 1905 and got its name from Charles Jones Jenkins, the 44th governor of Georgia. The US Census Bureau states that the county covers a total area of 352 square miles (910 square miles), with 347 square miles (900 square miles) covered by land and the remaining 5.2 square miles (10 square kilometers) covered by water bodies. Jenkins County is well known for the red summer of 1919. On 13th April 1919, there was a race riot in the county whereby white mobs attacked African American people.

County Inmate Search

The Freedom of Information Act requires all public agencies to make all public documents, including inmate information (except juvenile inmates), available to the citizens at any time. Individuals can log into the Georgia state department of corrections to get details on offenders incarcerated in state detention facilities. If one has a juvenile offender (under 18), one must log into the department of juvenile justice website to get the information. Note that details in the department of juvenile justice are not available to all members of the public for various legal reasons. Only suitable people, including parents, guardians, victims, and the inmate’s attorneys, can get those pieces of information. In some cases, law enforcement affiliations have access to those details, especially when the inmate has an ongoing court case.

Performing an Inmate Search

While performing an inmate search, an individual would first start by entering the incarcerated individual’s first or last name. Once they provide the name, a list of various inmates sharing the same initials would appear. From there, it becomes easier for them to choose their offender from the list. Moreover, an individual can provide additional information, including the offender’s age, race, and gender, to locate their inmate easier.

Searching by ID and Case number

Once an inmate is imprisoned in a detention facility, they get a unique GDC ID number, similar to one’s national identification number, since multiple inmates cannot share it. This GDC number is essential since it helps one to locate their inmate easily because upon entering the number in the prisoner lookup tool, it would generate a specific bearer of the number. On the other hand, a case number is a particular number that the judicial system attaches to some sort of case presented before it. Just like the GDC number, entering the case number on an inmate lookup tool would generate an inmate specific to the particular case number.

Finding an Inmate Held in a County Detention Facility

Individuals can locate their offender held in a county detention facility by logging into the sheriff’s office website, where they would find the inmate roster section and perform an inmate search in a similar way as stated above. Alternatively, they can physically visit the sheriff’s office. If an individual already knows the county jail where their inmate is located, they are advised to log into the specific jail’s official website (for instance, Jenkins County jail) and locate it in the inmate search section. Moreover, they can also contact the number provided on the facility’s website.

To find comprehensive information on sex predators, one can visit the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to find the Georgia sex offender registry.

Jenkins County Sheriff’s Office

The Jenkins County sheriff’s office, currently held by sheriff Robert Oglesby, is a law enforcement affiliation that ensures public safety and security in the county through public policing and the maintenance of public detention centers and their inmates. It is responsible for patrolling any independent areas of Jenkins County not under the jurisdiction of the local municipal police force. Moreover, the sheriff’s office is charged with facilitating legal judgments such as repossessions, foreclosures, and tax delinquencies. The office is 112 south Masonic Street, Millen, 30442, Georgia. One can contact the office for inquiries concerning:

  • Visiting and contacting incarcerated individuals
  • Who is in jail?
  • County jail records and mugshots
  • Public security and criminal activity
  • Jenkins county law enforcement
  • Sheriff’s office sales and auctions

To perform its legal functions, the sheriff’s office has various divisions which play different roles in the county. Below are some of the departments under the county sheriff’s office:

The Police Department

The police department is charged with managing crimes in the area through patrols and protecting various county resources, for instance, the airport. Note that this department is an entity of the county sheriff’s office and the American Criminal Justice Department. Therefore, the department’s funding comes in the form of central endowments and is subject to numerous omission procedures. Its headquarters is at 919 College Avenue, 30442, Millen, Georgia. The police department, similar to the sheriff’s office, has various divisions, including the ones listed below.

  • The SWAT department
  • The motor division (such as the motorcycle and vehicle division)
  • The field operations bureau
  • The administration bureau

Jail Division

The jail division is charged with the incarceration of inmates in the county. This department works hand in hand with the county judicial system, which orders sentences on its wrongdoers. Apart from imprisonment, this division ensures that all inmates’ welfare is well taken care of, including their living conditions in the jail and the various court-ordered programs that the inmates must be subjected to, for instance, rehabilitation sessions. Moreover, the jail division of the sheriff’s office is responsible for updating the county inmate roster, a list that contains all inmates incarcerated in Jenkins County. This list makes it possible for the public to find the location of their inmate in the county and even get more details, including the nature of offenses and their court-ordered sentences.
