The Georgia law, through the freedom of information act, requires that information on inmates should be made freely accessible to members of the public. The act prohibits access to information on minors or juvenile offenders unless granted by a parent or legal guardian, or a judge. When a loved one goes missing, we often look for them in police stations, hospitals, and jails. Accessing information from county jails on incarcerated inmates might help locate them and find the purpose of their arrest. Jeff Davis County offers several ways one can use to get information on an inmate.

Inmate Search Using the Georgia DOC Inmate Locator

Sometimes the county jail acts as a temporary detention center for inmates who should be transferred to state prisons. These inmates are mainly serving long-term sentences or have a higher security status than what the county jail can provide. In such a case, the inmate’s records and whereabouts are only accessible via the Georgia Department of Corrections. The department’s website is the best place to start when trying to find an inmate in state prisons. The website has an inmate locator that offers information regarding all inmates under the Georgia DOC. Use the inmate’s last name, first name, or DOC number to run the search.
