About Jasper County

Jasper County, Georgia, was established on December 10, 1807, by the Georgia General Assembly from land that had previously been part of Baldwin County. Randolph County was the initial name for Jasper County. The General Assembly renamed Randolph County Jasper County on December 10, 1812, to honor Sergeant William Jasper, an American Revolutionary War soldier. The U.S. census bureau shows that in 2010 the county had a population of 13,900. The county spans 373 square miles, with 368 square miles of land and 5.3 square miles of water. Monticello City, founded in 1808, is the largest city in Jasper County. The city has a historic courthouse built in 1907 and listed on the National Register of Historic places since 1980.

Jasper County is governed by a commission comprising five members elected from a single-member district. The commission is led by a chairman and a vice chairman, who the commissioners elect.

During their stay in jail, the division provides them with programs, including education, rehabilitation, mental health, ministry, and health care. The deputies then supervise and ensure that all inmates are accounted for, including inmate labor crews assigned to various public works projects throughout the county. The division also transports inmates to and from court appearances and picks up criminals held in other jails on Jasper County warrants.
