About The County

Henry County is located in the north-central part of Georgia and only 20 miles Southeast of downtown Atlanta. The county was formed in 1821 from land acquired from the creek Indian after the signing of the first treaty of Indian springs. The county occupies a total area of 327 square miles, most of which is land and only 4.4 square miles is water. The county was named after Patrick Henry, an American lawyer, farmer, orator, and politician.

The county seat is McDonough city, with a population of 22,084 as of 2010. The board of commissioners controls the Henry County government. Four of the commissioners are chosen by voters in their respective districts, while the chairman, who also serves as the county’s chief executive, is chosen by all voters in the county.

Jail Operations

Jail operations are responsible for all functions within the Henry County jail, which acts as a pre-trial detention center. The jail has the capacity to hold 900 detainees in its two facilities. The responsibilities of the jail operations are managed within three main sections. The administration section is responsible for jail policies and procedures, vendor contracts compliance, jail courts, and acting as a liaison for bonding companies. The operations section deals with inmate admissions, release, housing needs, and security within the jail. The third section is the support services in charge of the facility maintenance, supplies, uniforms, visitation, inmate classification, and inmate relations.

Court Operations

Court operations provide security services to the Henry County court as obliged by the constitution. The sheriff’s deputies protect Henry County court officials, including judges, juries, and clerks, during court sessions. The deputies are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the judicial process and ensuring the safety of personnel and property within the henry courthouse and the surrounding grounds. The deputies and bailiffs are highly trained to handle different situations in the courtroom using de-escalation techniques and customer services.

Field Operations

Field operations are grouped into three major divisions: administration, operations, and special operations. The divisions provide comprehensive law enforcement and services to the citizens of Henry County. Each division is headed by a captain who works under the commander of field support operations. The administration division deals with warrant services, records management, the sex offender registry, domestic violence, and the sheriff’s vehicle fleet. The operations division is charged with patrol services, crime suppression, transport services, the civil process, extraditions, and events management. Lastly, the special operations division has different units trained to handle different situations. The units are SWAT, k-9 unit, special investigations, motorcycle, school resource officers, and honor guard.

County Inmate Search

Henry County jail houses inmates awaiting trial. Most inmates in the Jail were either denied bond, could not raise the money to post bail, or serving short sentences of 12 months or less. The facility houses juvenile and adult inmates with an average of 173 bookings per month. The jail provides the public with an online search database containing all information on the detainees in the Jail. These records include the inmate’s full name, alias, gender, age, height, race, tattoos, mugshot, release dates, court dates, charges, and sentence. However, juvenile records are excluded from the search as the law considers these records confidential. Henry County jail updates the online inmate roster daily from Monday through Friday. For quick results on the search, use the following details;

  • Inmate’s first name
  • Inmate’s last name
  • Id number

The sheriff’s office also maintains a sex offender registry that contains the names and details of all convicted sex offenders in the county. The registry contributes to public awareness and safety by notifying the public about known sex offenders who live among them.

Henry County jail does not guarantee the accuracy of the information on the database. Therefore, the Henry County jail does not take responsibility for any damage or losses that may arise from the wrongful use of this information.

You can also access the inmate records in person on a roster posted daily at the sheriff’s office or contact the office at 770-288-7070.

Inmate Search Through The DOC Website

The Georgia Department Of Corrections website can also provide information on inmates from Henry County. Not everyone arrested in Henry County is taken to the county jail. On the sheriff’s recommendation, inmates serving long sentences and those with a higher security status are transferred to state prisons.

In such cases, the DOC website becomes a valuable tool for locating friends and family in state prisons. The DOC search engine requires the inmate’s name, address, and incarceration number.  You can perform the search using either of the details, but for more accurate results, using all the parameters will make it simple to locate the offender.
