Hancock County is situated in the U.S state of Georgia and was founded on December 17, 1793, and named after John Hancock, the founding father of the American Revolution. The county is included in Milledgeville, A Statistical metropolitan area. Sparta is the County seat of Hancock County, while the adjacent counties include Taliaferro County, Warren County, Glascock County, Washington County, Baldwin County, Putnam County, and Greene County. According to the 2020 United States Census, 8735 people, 2974 households, and 1755 families live in the county. On the other hand, the county’s racial composition includes White, 27.62%; African America, 68.98%; Native American, 0.26%; Asian, 0.42%; Pacific Islander, 0.01%, and Mixed races 1.98% and 0.72% Latino or Hispanic. 

According to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau, Hancock County has a total area of 479 square miles (1240km), of which land occupies 472 square miles (1220km) while water occupies 6.8 square miles (18km) (1.4%). Moreover, the western part of the county is located in the upper Oconee River sub-basin of the Altamaha River basin. At the same time, the southern is situated in the lower Oconee River sub-basin of the same Altamaha River basin. The northeastern part of Hancock County is located in the upper Ogeechee River sub-basin of Ogeechee River basin.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Office 

Sheriff Terrell Primus heads the Hancock County sheriff’s office. There are two sheriff departments in Hancock County serving a population of 8667 in an area of 471 square miles.
