Hall County is a county situated in the north-central part of the U.S state of Georgia. This county was founded on December 15, 1818, from Cherokee lands ceded by the Treaty of Cherokee Agency and the Treaty of Washington. Hall County is named after Lyman Hall, a signatory of the declaration of independence and governor of Georgia as both colony and state. The County seat of this county is Gainesville, and its adjacent counties are White County, Habersham County, Banks County, Jackson County, Barrow County, Gwinnett County, Forsyth County, Dawson County, and Lumpkin County. 

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 429 square miles (1110km), whereby land covers 393 square miles (1020km), and water occupies 37 square miles (96km) (8.5%). Hall County is situated in the upper Piedmont region of the state in the tableland of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the north and is part of the Gainesville, GA, metropolitan statistical area and part of the Atlanta-Athens-Clarke County-Sandy springs combined statistical area. 

According to reports from the 2020 United States Census, the total number of people is 203136, 65625 households, and 48776 families residing in the county. As per the racial composition, the county consists of 59.28% White, 7.02% African American, 0.17% Native American, 2.07% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 3.36% mixed races, and 28.06% Latino. 

Hall County Sheriff’s Office 

Hall County sheriff’s office‘s goal is to protect all the citizens in the county. The sheriff’s office professionally provides exceptional law enforcement services, without fear, favor, malice, or ill will, free from prejudice, with leadership, integrity, and respect. Some of the duties performed by the office include patrolling, investigating crimes, securing courtrooms during hearings, maintaining security over offenders, and assuring all laws of the county and state are performed efficiently and effectively. Jail Division 

The jail division is the largest unit within the Hall County sheriff’s office; the jail consists of 200 officers and clerks and is in charge of many areas of operation within the sheriff’s service division. Apart from housing inmates, the division handles all inmate transports to and from the court or other holding facilities and provides medical and dental appointments. In addition, the division operates a warrant service unit that serves approximately 600 arrest warrants. The division utilizes inmate labor and oversees grounds maintenance for all sheriff’s office facilities. 

Criminal Division 

Captain Dale Long heads the criminal division. The division is in charge of investigating reports of criminal acts and taking measures to prevent crimes. The investigators oversee case development activities, including locating and recovering stolen property, gathering and processing forensic evidence from crime scenes, and interviewing criminal suspects. Uniform Patrol 

The sheriff’s office operates a patrol system utilizing the eight zones. The patrol division is liable for responding to all calls for assistance from the citizens, performing preliminary investigations of suspicious or criminal operations, investigating vehicle accidents, and enforcing state laws and local ordinances. In addition, the patrol division conducts specialized operations by working in the following technical assignments as K-9 Unit, Marine Patrol, and Traffic Enforcement Unit. 

Training Division 

The training division oversees in-service training and continuing education for all the department’s employees. Through cooperation among local agencies, the Hall County sheriff’s office opens many classes to officers from other law enforcement groups. It makes its range of facilities available to them as well. The outside agencies requesting to participate in HCSO training courses must submit a training request form. Under the rules and laws of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) council, active certified peace officers must complete a minimum of twenty training hours annually. 

Records Unit 

The records unit is the central storage location for all incident and accident reports generated by the sheriff’s office. It is responsible for collecting, securing, storing, duplicating, distributing, and disseminating records and information to the public, courts, insurance companies, and other divisions, sections, and units of the sheriff’s office. Moreover, the division is responsible for maintaining a current database of all registered sex offenders in Hall County, conducting pre-employment criminal background checks for government agencies, businesses, and individuals, and maintaining all temporary protective orders.
