Greene County is located in the east-central U.S state of Georgia. The county was founded on February 3, 1786, and named after Nathaniel Greene, an American revolutionary war general. Greensboro is the County seat, and the adjacent counties include Oglethorpe County, Taliaferro County, Hancock County, Putnam County, Morgan County, and Oconee County.
Geographically, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county’s total area is 406 square miles (1050km), of which 387 square miles (1000km) are land, and 19 square miles (49km) (4.6%) are water. Moreover, the majority of Greene County, west of a line between Woodville, Union Point, and White Plains, is situated in the Upper Oconee River sub-basin of the Altamaha River basin. The northern half of the remainder of the county is located at the Little River sub-basin of the Savannah River basin. In contrast, the southern half is located in the upper Ogeechee River sub-basin of Ogeechee River basin.
Ideally, from the 2020 United States Census data, the total number of people is 18915, with 1732 households and 4975 families in the county. Moreover, the county’s racial composition by percentage is as follows; White 58.82%, 30.57% African American, Native American 0.15%, Pacific Islanders 0.01%, 2.71% mixed races, and 6.81% Latino or Hispanic.
Greene County Sheriff’s Office
Sheriff Donnie Harrison heads the Greene County sheriff’s office. The sheriff started his law enforcement job as a military police officer in the army for eight years before joining the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
Administrative Services
The administrative services consist of Sheriff Donnie Harrison, Chief Deputy Richard Campbell, and the civilian staff employed by the Greene County sheriff’s office. Detention Center

Patrol
The patrol division is the pillar of the Greene County sheriff’s office. The division represents the face of the agency to the public and is the first responder to emergency calls to all unincorporated parts of the county. In addition, the patrol unit’s duties include serving writs and warrants, answering calls, conducting traffic law enforcement, gathering evidence at crime scenes, and providing a high standard of customer service.
Each deputy providing patrol services must pass a field training program taught by a senior deputy for six weeks or longer. In addition, the deputies must maintain all training requirements for their state certification.
