Glascock County is situated in the U.S state of Georgia. The county was founded on December 19, 1857, and named after Thomas Glascock, a soldier in the war of 1812, general in the first Seminole war, and a U.S representative. Gibson is the county seat to Glascock, while the adjacent counties include Warren County, Jefferson County, Hancock County, and Washington County. The county is a rural, sparsely-populated, and the most republican of Georgia’s 159 counties. According to statistics from the 2020 United States Census, there is a total population of 2884 people, 1108 households, and 726 families living in Glascock County. The county’s racial composition includes 89.22% White, 6.8% African American, and 0.24% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.87% mixed races, and 1.8% Hispanic or Latino. 

Geographically, according to theU.S. Census Bureau, the total area of Glascock County is 144 square miles (370km), of which land occupies 144 square miles (370km). In comparison, water occupies 0.7 square miles (1.8km) (0.5%), making it the fourth-smallest county in Georgia. In addition, the vast majority of the county is located in the upper Ogeechee River sub-basin of the Ogeechee River basin, with just the northeastern corner of the county, northeast of State Route 80, situated in the Brier Creek sub-basin of the Savannah River basin. 

Glascock County Sheriff’s Office 

The Glascock County sheriff’s office is located at74 E Main St Gibson, GA 30810, headed by Jeremy Kelley. The mission of the office is to enhance the quality of life in Glascock County y working with the public and within the framework of the U.S to enforce laws, preserve peace, reduce fear, and offer a safe environment. The sheriff’s office is in charge of patrolling unincorporated parts of the county or areas not found within the municipal police force and enforcing legal judgments, including foreclosures, repossessions, and tax delinquencies. Below are programs and services provided by the sheriff’s office. 

C.H.A.M.P.S Program 

The Healthy Activities and Promoting Safety (CHAMPS) program is a twenty-week program provided by the sheriff’s office to help the youths in Glascock County resist pressures that may influence them to use alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, inhalants, and other drugs. In addition, the program gives the youth knowledge on ways to avoid bullying, peer pressure, violent behavior, and making good choices. Other safety topics taught include hunting, ATV, and boating safety. The CHAMPS program was formed by the Georgia Sheriff’s Association and is introduced to the 5th-grade students by a deputy sheriff from the sheriff’s office. 

Civil Process Division 

The Georgia Sheriff’s Association formed the civil process division to support primary and advanced training in the area of the civil process as well as add the networking capabilities between those deputies whose main job is the service of civil procedure. The division offers technical help to sheriff’s offices, including assisting with issues concerning compliance with the law, disseminating civil process information, and facilitating the standardization of civil process statewide through the Georgia Sheriff’s Association. The committee members of the civil process division serve as a point of contact for civil process questions and concerns within their respective regions and help in the annual civil process training seminar. 

Correction Management 

The jail management provides safety, health, and welfare to inmates housed in Glascock County jail. The Georgia Sheriff’s Association formed its jail services program for two main reasons. To ensure that sheriffs and jail officers can promote the safest, most efficient work environment possible and that constitutional mandates for the design and operation of county jails are met. The other reason is to meet goals, the division offers planning, staffing analysis, jail transition, and logistics planning. Other goals include model jail policy and procedure manual and operation and administration of Glascock County jail. The division consists of a jail officer from each of GSA’s ten geographic regions, two sheriffs, and GSA’s Training division members. 

Court Security Services 

The sheriff’s office ensures that the goal of increasing security in Glascock County courthouse and courthouse annexes is achieved. The Georgia Sheriff’s Training division staff may perform on-site security surveys of courthouses and courthouse annexes when the workforce is available, providing sheriffs with an in-depth report training on measures to improve the security of judicial buildings and personnel safety within. Through the training, the Glascock County sheriff’s office is taking steps to increase awareness of security concerns and, in doing so, protect the lives and well-being of the persons within the confine of the courthouse and maintain the integrity of the critical business that must be performed within these structures. 

Sex Offender Registry 

The sheriff’s office must register sex offenders as mandated by the law. As per the current statute, the sheriff’s office must register all sex offenders who claim residence in Glascock County within 72 hours after release from prison or are placed on probation, parole, supervised release, or entry into the state. The registration includes the tracking, monitoring, enforcement, and prosecution of registered sex offenders in Georgia.
