Fulton County is located in Georgia’s north-central region. It is situated in the state’s Piedmont area, in the northern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The county was created in 1853 from a part of the western part of DeKalb County. It was named after Robert Fulton, who, in 1807, built the first steamboat that was economically successful.

The county has a total area of 534 square miles, of which 527 square miles are land and 7.7 square miles is water. It is also home to 1,066,710 people, making it the most populated in the state and the only one with more than a million residents as of the 2020 United States Census.

The county is situated in Atlanta, the state capital and biggest city. 90% of the City of Atlanta is located in Fulton County, while the remaining 10% is in DeKalb County. The Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA, Metropolitan Statistical Area includes Fulton County.

Fulton County Sheriff’s Office

Fulton County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) is the county’s top law enforcer, with help from the deputies. The office is located at 185 Central Ave SW, Atlanta, GA 30303. The office works to uphold social order and offer the people of Fulton County skilled law enforcement services. It also aims to minimize recidivism and help bring lawbreakers to justice.

FCSO Responsibilities

Through the FCSO field operations division, deputies protect people and property, prevent crime, and uphold all applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations. This includes carrying out criminal warrants, delivering court documents, stopping crimes, controlling traffic and issuing tickets, conducting preliminary investigations, and responding to emergency calls.

FCSO has dogs trained (K9-Unit) in various tasks, such as tracking, explosives, and drug detection. Specially trained and accredited handlers work with the dogs. The SWAT Unit deals with the capture of suspects, support for adjacent local enforcement organizations, special escorts of high-risk prisoners, and other tasks as assigned by the Sheriff.

FCSO also has a Bomb Squad that specializes in bomb diffusion and disarmament. During large events in Metro Atlanta, security sweeps are performed by the FCSO Bomb Unit.

Crisis Negotiation Unit

The Crisis Negotiation Unit comprises professionally trained deputies who are excellent at defusing tense circumstances by negotiating with suspects to arrive at amicable solutions. This unit must stay in contact with barricaded suspects, hostage-takers, and anyone planning to hurt others.

Drone Unit

Two drone pilots employed by the organization assist with law enforcement efforts:

  • SWAT
  • Bomb squad
  • Rescue and search missions
  • Surveillance operations

Protective Measures Unit

The Protective Measures Unit organizes the security of dignitaries, court officials, witnesses, and visiting local and international leaders. It also offers protection for particular events in the county.

FCSO also offers:

  • Background Checks
  • Fingerprinting services
  • Alcohol sale and distribution permits
  • Gun and raffle permits
  • DMV verification and license registration
  • Sex offender registration.

Community Engagement Unit

This unit aims at increasing public safety by fostering relationships between local law enforcement and the residents. It cultivates connections with a wide range of community-based groups to create a good impact in the community via initiatives including investing in the children and elderly, eradicating the stigma associated with mental illness, and working with business owners on crime prevention.

Fulton County Inmate Search

Fulton County incarcerates all inmates charged with state, county, and federal offenses at the Fulton County Jail. The jail is located at 901 Rice St NW, Atlanta, GA 30318and the FCSO operates it under the supervision of the Georgia Department of Corrections. The facility acts as the meeting point for all inmates before they can be transferred to other county jails or state or federal prisons.

Nonetheless, the jail houses inmates sentenced with non-violent offenses for less than one year and with a possibility of release on parole. It also offers the GA DOC inmates a reentry program. As such is the case, the jail’s inmate search page is the first place you can visit when you want to perform a Fulton County inmate search.

The page is searchable by inmates’ first and last names. Nonetheless, tapping the inmate’s name on the search results will guide you to the inmate mugshots. The page also has information on the inmate, such as their personal information, arrest, criminal, and physical description records.

Some third-party websites can help you conduct an inmate search in the county. However, there is no guarantee that the records will be accurate as they are not affiliated with any government agency. Some also may charge processing fees.

Conducting Search By Phone

Because, at times, you cannot find their names on the page, conducting the Fulton County inmate search by phone is advisable. You can call the jail at 404-613-2024 and request to perform an inmate search.

You need to provide all information about the inmate through the phone, such as their full names, race, sex, height, tattoos, age, ID number, date of incarceration or arrest, and charges. This will help the jail administration conduct the inmate search faster and probably eliminate all inmates that don’t match your description.

You can also visit the jail and request to locate an inmate.

Other alternatives to Fulton County Inmate Search

If the inmate you seek is a sex offender, there is a probability that they are in the Fulton County Sex Offender Registry. The registry is accessible from the FCSO website. You can also contact the office and request the records.

Finally, if all the above methods fail, you can visit the GA Statewide inmate search platform that offers access to records on all inmates in the Georgia prison system. The platform is searchable by name or prisoner ID.
