Fayette County is situated in Georgia’s north central region. It was created in 1821 after the United States and the Creek people signed a deal in Indian Springs to cede a sizable piece of their land to Georgia. The sheriff’s office operates a medium-security facility for incarcerating low-misdemeanor adults with less than a year of sentence. This facility, located at 145 Johnson Avenue, Fayetteville, GA 30214, is also used to detain all inmates within the county jurisdiction charged with state and federal law violations which cannot pay bail or are denied by the court. 

This facility is the primary destination for all inmates before they can be transferred to other jails, appear before the court, or get released. It also houses a reentry program for state prisoners.
