Fannin County was introduced on January 21, 1854, from parts of Gilmer and Union counties. It is situated in Georgia’s north central region in the Appalachian Mountain Range, making it one of the most rural counties in Georgia. The county was honored in the name of James W. Fannin, a Georgia native and a soldier of the Texas Revolution.

Fannin County has a total area of 392 square miles, of which 387 square miles is land and 5.2 square miles is water and is home to 25,319 people living in 10,408 households with 7,083 families as of the 2020 US Census. 90% of its residents reside in unincorporated areas.

The county is one of the few historically Republican counties in a state that, until the 1960s, was overwhelmingly Democratic on the national level. It has its county seat in Blue Ridge.

Fannin County Sheriff’s Office

The Fannin County sheriff’s office (FCSO) is located at 645 W. First Street, Blue Ridge, GA 30513. The position is created by the Georgia State Constitution and state statutes, making the sheriff a constitutional official. The FCSO is responsible for maintaining the community’s security, safety, and well-being while upholding Georgia law and Fannin County statutes.

With 45 full-and part-time staff, the FCSO provides law enforcement services to residents within its jurisdictional area. FCSO is responsible for providing general law enforcement services to the incorporated municipalities and unincorporated areas of Fannin County. In addition, FCSO;

  • Enforces local, state, and federal laws and responds to all emergency calls.
  • It also dispatched all emergency calls to the relevant authority. This includes the fire, medical, security, and disaster departments.
  • Investigate crimes within its jurisdiction, such as homicides, burglaries, missing persons, and drug-related crimes.
  • Offers security in courts, judges, witnesses, suspects, and the information room.
  • Offers transportation services to inmates to and from the court during transfers to another county, state, or federal prisons.

Detentions Unit

FCSO manages the county jails and ensures protection for everyone in them. This varies among the visitors, correctional staff, jail volunteers, and inmates. Additionally, the detention unit serves as a location for residents to submit their fingerprints for foster care, adoption, political eligibility, weapons permits, company licenses, and other purposes.

Sex Offenders’ Registry

FCSO maintains the Fannin County Sex Offender Registry on behalf of the Georgia Department of Corrections. The office has to register new sex offenders living, working, or visiting the county. The purpose of this is to safeguard the public and make them aware. In return, the residents can use the registry to learn where sex offenders reside, work, and attend school.

Civil Process Unit

FCSO has various civil processes as part of its outlined duties and responsibilities. The office serves court documents sent to the sheriff’s office. It processes civil documents for service Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except on holidays. The only civil documents that can be accepted and handled outside regular business hours are temporary restraining orders and injunctions. WCSO also handles evictions, executions, and foreclosure sales processes.

Fannin County Inmate Search

The Fannin County Adult Detention Center is situated behind the Fannin County Courthouse in downtown Blue Ridge at 645 West First Street, Blue Ridge, Georgia 30513. People found guilty of breaking Georgia State or federal law and those accused of crimes and misdemeanors awaiting bail or court dates are incarcerated at the 84-bed detention center.

This detention facility acts as the county offender hub as all inmates not released on bail reside in the jail. When you want to perform an inmate search in Fannin County, you may start by checking the inmate list on the FCSO website.

Knowing where your inmate is is crucial as they may need you to help them with finances or any other help. Again, knowing they are safe is vital; you need to know where to visit them, send them money or set up a call service provider.

The inmate list is searchable by first and last name. The inmate list has all information of all inmates in the jail, recently released and recently transferred.

What if the inmate is not on the inmate list?

Reasons why the inmate is not on the list, may differ as they may no longer be incarcerated at the jail due to transfer to another jail or being released. In other cases, they may not have arrived at the facility as they must undergo processing at the respective arresting officer station before they may end up in jail.

In such a case, the only solution to find them is to call the detention facility at 706-632-2045 or visit the jail in person.

You can also utilize the Georgia Statewide inmate database. This database lists all inmates in the Georgia Prison system; thus, you can locate inmates in county state and federal detention centers in Georgia.

Fannin County VINELink

VINELink is a resource for victims of crimes. If you are a victim, you can register at the sheriff’s office free to receive notification by phone, message, or email.

Sex Offender Registry

If the offender is a sex offender, you can find them using the Fannin County sex offender registry, as it has records of all sex offenders in the county, including their residence area. The registry is searchable by name and geographical location.
