Early County is located in Georgia’s southwest region. The county was established on December 15, 1818, and was named in honor of Peter Early, Georgia’s 28th governor from 1813 to 1815. Initially, Early County included a total area of 3,770 square miles in southwest Georgia. Furthermore, Early County’s original borders were gradually carved into the ten counties of Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Decatur, Dougherty, Grady, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole, and Thomas.

Currently, the county has a total area of 516 square miles, of which 513 square miles is land and 3.8 square miles is water. The Chattahoochee River, which forms the boundary with Alabama, borders the county on the west. It is home to 10,854 individuals, 4,074 households, and 2,659 families, per the US 2020 Census reports.

Blakely, home to the Early County Courthouse, serves as the county seat, and its development and growth attracted the Early County residents to name it the county seat.

Early County Sheriff’s Office

The Early County Sheriff’s Office’s mission is to uphold social order within established ethical and constitutional bounds. It also aims at providing fair and impartial professional law enforcement service, housing inmates in a safe and legal environment, to ensure the protection of the surrounding communities through the operation of a secure facility.

The Early County Sheriff’s Office is located at 111 Court Sq. Ste B, Blakely, Georgia, 39823 and operates under the leadership of Sheriff William C. Price, who aims to protect and serve the Early County residents.

To ensure this, the office has various departments that work independently and sometimes together to achieve the primary goal of the office.

Administrative Unit

This unit deals with everything from employee health and retirement benefits to the office’s financial budget. The division also maintains and distributes the office’s records, traffic tickets, civil proceedings, and warrants.

Civil Unit

This division serves civil procedures obtained from the Early County Courts and other authorities, including evictions, writs of possession, and the collection of court-issued judgments.

Uniform Patrol division

Early County residents’ initial point of contact is the Uniform Patrol division. Twenty-four-hour patrol deputies with marked cars give awareness of protection with a focus on community-oriented policing. They also control traffic, issue tickets for moving infractions, and respond to emergency calls.

Criminal Investigations Division

This unit deals with all crimes in the county, such as those involving drugs, property, and crimes against people. It is responsible for gathering data, and proof, apprehending lawbreakers, and working with the prosecutor throughout the criminal prosecution of the offender.

Detention

This unit manages the Early County Jail and rehabilitates offenders with safe, legal, and compassionate treatment at the institution following the Georgia Jail Standards, the Georgia State Constitution, and the United States Constitution. It also comes up with innovative plans for the demands of the criminal justice system in the future.

Probation Unit

This division’s goals are to prevent crime, provide supervision services, and provide secure adult custody to lessen crime and safeguard the community. The Department is dedicated to fostering relationships with the community and making up for the harm done to the public and crime victims via initiatives focusing on competence development and offender responsibility.

Early County Inmate Search

The Early County Sheriff runs the 74-bed detention facility, the Early County Jail. Along with state convicts and pre-trial inmates, the jail also accommodates post-trial inmates who were sentenced to the institution until their term was completed. These inmates are not necessarily individuals charged with county ordinance violations but also state, federal, and international law violations within the county and the state of Georgia.

This jail is located at 531 E South Blvd, Blakely, GA 39823, USA, and it incarcerates adult male and female offenders. The sheriff’s office-detention unit handles all these individuals’ booking, orienting, and housing. In addition, it must collect all the valid information on these individuals online and manually. These records include the individuals’ criminal backgrounds, arrest records, personal information, court records, and physical descriptions.

The Georgia Law also mandates the Early County Sheriff’s Office to make these records accessible to the general public and issue them upon request.

How to locate an inmate in Early County

The GA Open Records Act makes it possible for the public to perform an inmate search on inmates incarcerated within Early County. The county jail maintains an online register available on the Early County Sheriff’s Office website that is searchable by first and last name.

To search, you need to have the inmate’s full name. It is easy to search as the jail roster is divided by the inmate’s first letter of their name, date of incarceration in the facility, age, sex, gender, or race. Thus. Locating an inmate is very fast.

However, if you cannot find the inmate using the jail roster, the jail allows individuals to seek the whereabouts of their inmate by phone at 229-723-3214, 229-723-3579, or visiting the jail in person. The officer will request information such as the inmate’s name, race, age, and personal information over the phone. This is to help them locate the inmate for you easily.

You may request to receive the search results, such as their mugshot, to confirm that they are the ones by mail or email, or collect them in person at the jail’s lobby, but at a processing fee.

You can also utilize the Early County sex offender registry available at the sheriff’s website or use the GA statewide inmate search to find out if they are incarcerated in another county, state, or federal prison.
