Dade County is located in the northwest corner of Georgia in the United States. The county was established in 1837 and was named in honor of Major Francis Langhorne Dade who was slayed by Seminole Indians in the Dade Massacre in December 1835.

However, Dade County citizens voted in 1860 to break away from the state of Georgia and the United States. Still, it was never acknowledged, and it “rejoined” both Georgia and the United States in 1945.

The county covers a total area of 174 square miles with 16,633 people living in this area, according to the 2020 Census. The county’s population comprises whites, African-Americans, Asians, and Latinos.

Dade County utilizes Trenton, founded in February 1854, as the county seat and is the county’s only incorporated municipality. It also belongs to the Chattanooga, Tennessee-GA Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Dade County Sheriff’s Office

The Dade County Sheriff’s Office is located at 75 Case Ave., PO Box 920, Trenton, Georgia 30752. Its primary mission is to offer each resident the best degree of life and property security while upholding Georgia law and guaranteeing that each person’s constitutional rights are upheld.

Residents in Dade County elect their sheriff to the office for four years. In addition, the sheriff must qualify per Georgia Code 15-16-1, which specifies the requirements for candidates wishing to run for the Office of Sheriff.

The office is divided into several units that enable the DCSO to carry out its daily operations and provide efficient services to its residents. They include the following;

911-Dispatch Unit

This unit receives all calls from the county residents to the sheriff’s office. The unit then dispatches these calls to the relevant department, especially the patrol unit, where they can act as the first responders of the call. It also collects all the call information, such as the caller, location of the incident, time, nature and type of the incident, and additional information.

 Patrol Division

The patrol division is responsible for frequent county patrols throughout. They are also the first responders to all 911 calls from the dispatch unit. These calls range from severe offenses to low misdemeanors.

Investigations Division

This division conducts complex crime scene investigations, evaluates crime scenes, secures physical evidence, files reports, and testifies in court. However, this unit only deals with complex cases, especially murder, sexual assault, armed robberies, house invasions, and burglaries.

Corrections Division

This unit is responsible for all operational activities of the jail. This includes directing the scheduling and movement of prisoners to other correctional facilities as necessary, rehabilitating inmates, and protecting the staff, visitors, and inmates in the jail.

Courts Services Unit

This unit is responsible for ensuring the courthouse and individuals in the court are secure. It also transports inmates to and from the court, issuing, modifying, clearing out, validating, and canceling missing person reports, issuing court warrants, summons, and legal proceedings to the county residents.

DCSO also has other units, including;

  • Narcotics; deals with drug and substance-related cases and investigations.
  • K9 unit; helps out the Special Investigations and Narcotics Units with investigations such as evidence retrieval or search.
  • Records Division; collects, keeps, maintains, and updates all public information under the custody of the DCSO.

Dade County Inmate Search

Dade County Jail was created in 1989 and can accommodate 116 offenders. The facility has detention rooms for the general population and segregation cells. It houses male and female offenders brought in by the DCSO, local police departments, and Federal and Homeland Security agencies.

All inmates who cannot pay or are denied bail are brought here. This includes individuals charged with federal, state and county law violations. Their information, such as criminal, arrest, and personal records, is made public by the Georgia FOIA. This means that the jail provides access to all county inmates.

How can you find an inmate in Dade County?

Locating an inmate in Dade County is simple as DCSO maintains an online jail roster that updates all inmates’ information. This jail roster is available on the DCSO official website. To find an inmate in the jail using the roster, you can locate the inmate by name.

The jail roster is organized so that all inmates who share the first letter of their name are grouped; thus, to locate an inmate, you need to find the first letter of their name.

Note that the jail roster is not regularly updated but in intervals. As a result, you may not find the inmate you are looking for since their information is not updated. In such a case, you can contact the jail at (706) 657-2277 and tell them you wish to locate an inmate.

However, you need to have all the possible information you can get to help the administration filter down the search results quickly. Moreover, you can visit the jail in person to find an inmate. Besides, it’s convenient and accurate.

Sex Offender Inmate Search

You can locate a sex offender by name or geographical location using the Dade County Sex Offender Registry maintained by the DCSO. You can also request a phone search or visit the DCSO in person.

Georgia Statewide Inmate Search

If an inmate is unavailable on the jail roster and all the above ways don’t work, you can always use the Georgia Statewide inmate Search to search the database by name or prisoner number.
