About the County
Chattahoochee County is located on the western side of central Georgia. Initially, this area was part of Muscogee and Marion Counties before the Georgia Legislature drafted an Act in February 1854 to direct the creation of a new county. During this time, the county had three small post offices, but there was no outright town for the county seat. As a result, the court intervened in April 1854 and ordered the survey of Cusseta Town, which eventually became the county seat in May 1854.
Early inhabitants of the county were farmers whose primary reason for visiting was the fertile soils in the area. The main agricultural activity was cotton farming, with the residents producing around 6,000 bales every harvesting period.
In terms of population growth, the 2020 census results indicate that the county has 9,565 people, an 18% drop from 2010. The report further shows that the county covers 251 square miles, 249 of the area being land and the rest water.

Inmate Search through the DOC’s Website
Online inmate search through the state’s Department of Corrections only applies to inmates transferred from the county jail to state facilities. The Department provides an online website that eases the offender search process using two broad search options: Name and ID/Case Number.
The former option requires interested individuals to input the prisoner’s first and last names in conjunction or separately. There is also the partial name search category, where you provide the first four letters of the name. For instance, instead of keying in “Jefferson” in full, you can search it as “Jeff.” This way, the search engine will list all names matching the criteria.
The latter option is the most accurate as each ID or case number identifies a particular inmate. However, some offenders may have more than one case number, depending on whether they’ve faced other criminal charges.
