About the County
The location of Catoosa County is on the northwestern side of Georgia, along the Tennessee border. Initially, the county was a part of Whitfield and Walker Counties, but the Georgia General Legislature apportioned the two counties on 5th December 1853 to form Catoosa County.
A year after the county’s formation, authorities chose Ringgold as the county seat. The reason for choosing this town was the Ringgold Depot, which was significant in moving Confederate troops during the Civil War. The depot is one of the few surviving antebellum railroad terminals in Georgia.
The curve has been on an upward trend in terms of population growth. For instance, the 2020 census results indicate that the county has 67,872 people, a 7.38% increase from 2010. The United States Census Bureau further shows that the county covers 162 square miles, with 0.3 of the area being water and the rest being land.
About the County Sheriff’s Office
The Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office is at 909 Ringgold, Georgia. The office’s main objective is to preserve social order within the established ethical and constitutional limitations. To do so, it offers law enforcement services to the county residents, with the Sheriff as the overall authority. Additionally, the Sheriff provides several programs for the benefit of the community, including:
Neighborhood Watch
The purpose of Neighborhood Watch is to educate locals on how to be safer in their communities. It works by designing ways to help community members identify potential problems and actions to take. As a result, the citizens become equipped with the necessary information to counter scenarios that may jeopardize their well-being.
Crime Stoppers
This program aims to integrate the community, police officers, and the media in eliminating and preventing crimes. Participants receive a toll-free number which they use to report potential or ongoing crimes, after which patrol officers respond promptly.
Usually, there is a cash reward for calls that lead to arrests of crime perpetrators or prevention of potential crimes. For reward consideration, fill out the form on this link.
School Zone Patrol
The purpose of the School Zone Patrol Program is to ensure children and students get to school safely. Officers from the Sheriff’s Department are stationed in busy school zones to regulate traffic and ensure drivers maintain a modest speed.
The following Sheriff’s Office Divisions come in handy in helping the Sheriff achieve the community protection goal:
The Uniform Patrol Division
This division’s officers spend most of their time in the community and streets, watching over the people and their businesses. A Captain heads the Patrol Division with the help of Lieutenants and several Deputies. Other responsibilities include:
- Being the First Responders to Scenes that Put People’s Lives at Risk, such as Fires
- Investigating Traffic Accidents in the County
- Traffic Control
To successfully perform the above duties, each patrol vehicle has cutting-edge instruments, including automatic external defibrillators (AEDs), first aid kits, and radios for instantaneous communication in the event of an emergency.
The K-9 Unit
This specialized part of the Patrol Division helps Patrol Officers detect illegal drugs. The dogs in the team are also helpful in locating and flushing out dangerous criminals while shielding their handlers from harm.
County Inmate Search
Inmates sentenced within Catoosa County are held in the Catoosa County Jail. This correctional facility has been operating since 2002 and sits on 54,000 square feet of land. Apart from the incarceration of persons serving jail terms, the facility houses male and female individuals awaiting trial or sentencing.
The inmate search process in Catoosa County is less complex as the County Sheriff’s Office maintains an online jail roster. The database allows the public to search for incarcerated inmates by scrolling through the alphabetically arranged names.
Alternatively, you can opt for the roster’s name search option by inputting the inmate’s first and last names in conjunction or separately. For better results, indicate the inmate’s arrest date, which will narrow down the names.
An up-to-date jail roster is also available at the Sheriff’s Office. All you have to do is visit the department and review it in person or call 706-935-2424 for further assistance. Ensure you have the full and accurate inmate’s name for a successful search process.
Inmate Search through the Sex Offender Database
The Sheriff’s Office also maintains an online sex offender database containing information on registered sex offenders in the county. If you’re looking for a particular offender, fill out the name option, and the search engine will generate results matching the criteria. Alternatively, you may opt for an address search that lists offenders residing in the provided address and the surrounding areas.
A successful search will give the following offender information:
- Sex Offender Classification Level
- Name
- Address Race
- Sex
- Mugshots
- Age
Inmate Search after Transfer from the County Jail
An inmate transfer from the Catoosa County Jail may happen for several reasons, including:
- A Change in an Inmate’s Security Status. The Sheriff writes to the court and illustrates how it’s impossible to meet the security needs of the inmate at the county level.
- After Determination of a Case by the Judge. This scenario applies to individuals previously awaiting trial or sentencing in the county jail.
Usually, the abovementioned inmates end up in the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections. This is the authority responsible for managing and running state correctional facilities while providing the necessary security requirements.
