Butts County is a county in the central part of the United States state of Georgia. The state legislature created this County in 1825 and presented it to Governor George Troup as a gist. It is situated between Macon and Atlanta and was carved from Monroe and Henry Counties portions. Butts County was named after Captain Samuel Butts, a Virginia native killed in the Battle of Calabee in Alabama during the Creek Indian War between 1811 and 1815. Butts County is part of the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA, Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Jackson is the county seat, named for United States President Andrew Jackson. He had spent a few weeks in the area in 1818 before heading to Florida to fight in the First Seminole War. The other incorporated towns in Butts County are Jenkinsburg and Flovilla.
According to the U.S. Census 2020, this County’s population was 25434. It has a total area of 188 square miles, 184 square miles is land, and 3.6 square miles is water.
Butts County Sheriff’s Office
The Butts County Sheriff’s Office strives to serve and protect through professionalism, dedication, and active cooperation with the community. It provides full-service law enforcement to the residents and visitors of Butts County, Georgia.
The current Sheriff of Butts County is Sheriff Gary Long, who flaunts about 17 years of experience in law enforcement. He was elected the Sheriff and assumed office on January 1, 2013. In his first six months in the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Long cut his budget by nearly $600000. He believes in transparency and strong community relations. Gary Long has proven the latter with several community programs, effective leaders throughout the Sheriff’s Office, and the Citizen’s Advisory Board. Long has renovated the county jail, the Sheriff’s Office, and County Roadways using forfeited drug funds and inmate labor funds. He is currently helping other County Departments, saving them funds through lending inmate labor.

Uniform Division
The Uniform Patrol Division is the most popular Unit among the residents of Butts County since its officers are often in direct contact with the citizens. It answers more than 17000 calls every year. The deputies of the Butts County Sheriff’s Office offer an around-the-clock response to a vast variety of needs, including order maintenance, 911 calls, and criminal complaints such as traffic enforcement, domestic or civil disputes, and vehicle crashes. Every patrol shift works a 12-hour shift directly supervised by a Sergeant. Suppose you are in an emergency and need a deputy, call 911 immediately.
