Brantley County, in southeast Georgia, became the state’s 158th County in 1921. As of the 2020 US census, the County had a population of 18021, and its county seat is Nahunta. This area is part of the Brunswick, Georgia, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Georgia Legislature created Brantley County from parts of Charlton, Pierce, and Wayne Counties. The real history behind the naming of this area is not exactly known. Many historians say it was named for Benjamin Daniel Brantley, while some say it was named for his son, William Gordon Brantley (1860-1934). Originally this County was known as the back Woods of South Georgia.

The County has a total area of 447 square miles comprising 442 square miles of land and 4.8 square miles of water. Notably, the Satilla River runs through this County. Creek Indians originally inhabited the area. Nahunta, the county seat, was incorporated in 1925, becoming the second community with this name in the area.

On the other hand, Province Sheriffs typically uphold the law in unincorporated regions. They are occasionally called upon to serve subpoenas, insurance requests, and expulsion takes note.

For this purpose, the Office is pleased to offer the OffenderWatch® to the residents of Brantley County. This is the County’s leading registered sex offender management and community notification tool. The Office utilizes this tool to manage and monitor the whereabouts, compliance status, and conduct of registered sex offenders in this area.
