Bibb County is in the central part of the United States state of Georgia. It is geographically located on the fall line, where southern Piedmont and the Coastal Plain meet. The County was formed on December 9, 1822, a year after the Creek Indians surrendered the last of their land in this area. This 55th county of Georgia was created from Monroe, Jones, Houston, and Twiggs Counties portions. Bibb County was named after the first elected governor of Alabama and a Georgia politician, William Wyatt Bibb.

The County’s largest city, Macon, was established in 1823 and serves as the county seat. Several other towns, such as Huguenin Heights and Vineville, originally existed independently in this area, but all were eventually annexed to Macon. Payne City is currently the County’s only other incorporated town.

Bibb County has a population of 157346 as of the 2020 census. It has a total area of 255 square miles.

Sheriff David Davis is the current Sheriff of Bibb County, Georgia. Davis has lived in this County his whole life. He commenced his career at the Sheriff’s Office in December 1979. The Sheriff is a graduate of Central High School, Macon State College, Georgia State University, and the University of Virginia. Davis was first elected Sheriff of this County in November 2012 and was re-elected for his second term in 2016.

During his time in Office, Sheriff Davis has implemented numerous significant community initiatives, including the Safety Walk in neighborhoods and the CHAMPS program in the schools throughout Bibb County. Notably, he has guided the successful merger of the Sheriff’s Office with the Macon Police Department. In 2105, the Office achieved the Georgia State Law Enforcement Certification, and in 2017 it was designated the Agency of the Year by the Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office provides full services to the community and comprises four divisions: Special Operations, Administration, Support Operations, and Law Enforcement.

Corrections Unit

The Corrections Unit currently houses more than 900 offenders. The Bibb County Jail’s capacity was expanded in 2007 to meet the needs of the growing Macon City and the County. It incarcerates male and female offenders 17 years or older, either charged or convicted of misdemeanor or felony offenses. Sentences on the latter usually range from one year in jail to life without parole.

The Bibb County Detention Center is a Community Service and Work Release Center. It contains 192 beds assigned to the above programs. The Work Release Program allows detainees to continue working during incarceration.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Center is at 668 Oglethorpe Street, and the Detention Center is at 645 Hazel Street.

Bibb County Inmate Search

Bibb County inmate records comprise offenders housed in state prisons, county jails, and other penal facilities within Bibb County. The records may include sentencing information such as the court in which the case was tried, the class and type of offense, and the location of the correctional facility holding the offender. They may also contain the inmate’s full name, registration number, gender, mugshots, physical descriptions, and race. Most of these inmate records are usually available and open to the public for inspection in compliance with Georgia law and statutes. Some records are kept confidential in the County, for instance, juvenile inmate records.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is the primary custodian of such records in Bibb County. You can obtain them online, via mail, or go for them in person at the Sheriff’s Office.

Searching for information about an offender or locating them is a simple exercise if you know precisely where to look. The first action is to search the facility’s official website online to check if it provides an inmate search tool or an inmate roster. Alternatively, you can locate an inmate using third-party inmate locator sites, usually private-run in partnership with the government. These offer a relatively easier inmate search criterion, only requiring you to provide the inmate’s full name and the facility location.

Sheriff’s Office Facilities

As mentioned above, the County Sheriff’s Office manages and operates the Bibb County Jail and the Detention Center. The Sheriff’s Office website provides numerous inmate search tools to help locate an offender or an individual currently incarcerated in its correctional facilities. The search tools include:

To perform an offender search, you must provide the offender’s first, middle, and last names and suffixes. It is essential to note that an individual’s current incarceration does not necessarily mean they have been convicted of a crime, as the county jail also houses inmates awaiting trial.

State Prison Search

Visit the Georgia Department of Corrections official website for inmates housed in state prisons or those transferred from county jails https://gdc.ga.gov/. Click the “Find an Offender” option on this site and proceed to conduct an inmate search.
