Baker County is a county in the southwest part of the United States state of Georgia. The only city and, therefore, the county seat is Newton. As of the 2010 census, this County had a population of 3451. An act of the Georgia General Assembly on December 12, 1825, created Baker County from the eastern part of Early County. Before the Civil War, parts of this County formed all or portions of Miller, Dougherty, Calhoun, and Mitchell Counties. It was named for Colonel John Baker, a hero and a Puritan of the Revolutionary War, between 1775 and 1783.
